Coding Experts - How to Best Detect Device and Serve Video Stream Accordingly

Hi Guys

A question for the coding experts ...

Please take a look at an example of one of my pages, which uses a Live Video Feed from Live Jasmin.

My pages are currently mobile optimised (was that a good decision??), so the video stream is 300px wide to fit on mobile screens (in portrait).

Since speaking to some camgirls, I have been made aware that most (paying) customers are on desktops (would you agree?).

So, what is the best technique to sense whether it's a mobile or desktop visitor and serve a larger video size for desktop if applicable?

Thanks

I dont know, but for instance Chaturbate has not even been available on mobile for a long time and that really says you are right about that.

You can use "@media queries" in css to make your sites responsive and work good both on mobile and pc as well as on tablets.

Thanks for your reply. That's the thing, I know how to use @media queries for CSS layout styling, but here I have to load in a different php include depending on user screen size. I'm not sure whether that can be done with @media queries or how??

Alright, well you could load both in two different divs and only display the one that's right for the screen.

That's an easy solution, I really don't know how much it would affect performance.

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess that could work because if a particular div is not displayed, then I guess it would not be trying to load data ... I will have to check that. Thanks.

Use media queries in css to make the player resize automatically depending on the visitor resolution. Also if you want to serve different video(s) you can use https://github.com/serbanghita/Mobile-Detect to detect what kind of device the visitor is using.

Some 3rd party cdn sites can offer mobile compatibility options i guess
