Do you unfriend a dead friend on Facebook?

I just got a birthday reminder from a Facebook friend I've known since high school, he died 2 years ago from cancer. How do you stop the reminder without unfriending, or do you just unfriend?

I use FB maybe twice a month and sometimes go back to his page to remember him but getting the notice randomly brings me back to his death.

What do you do in this scenario?

MiamiBoyz 12-13-2016 11:39 AM

Who the fuck cares?

Unfriend the dead bitch.

2 years is long enough to morn the lose I am sure.

redwhiteandblue 12-13-2016 12:45 PM

I think you should, I mean it's not like they give a fuck about you any more.

Spunky 12-13-2016 12:49 PM

No because he was a good friend and it brings back good memories when I visit now and then

marlboroack 12-13-2016 01:04 PM

He wasn't a real friend if you unfriend him.

wehateporn 12-13-2016 01:06 PM

Depends how good a friend they were

Facebook added this feature not so long ago... it even came with a glitch of course

Read about it here: https://www.theguardian.com/technolo...ark-zuckerberg

Anyway, you can submit a Memorialization Request here: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/234739086860192

i do not - and it's amazing to watch how many people from this industry still wish him a happy birthday every year.

You can stay friends and unfollow them but that won't stop Bday reminders.

Some of the responses on this thread show a complete lack of maturity and couth.

j3rkules 12-13-2016 01:27 PM

I do not do anything really, but I do not use facebook much.

Only AFTER posting 'good riddance'

fuzebox 12-13-2016 01:28 PM

I recently unfollowed one, got tired of people posting on his wall (it's been 8 years). Still felt weird to unfriend though.

Try putting her former Facebook address into archive.org and see what pops up

That is why i turned off public display of birthday on FB in order to prevent birthday spam.

bns666 12-13-2016 04:31 PM

just ignore...

Rochard 12-13-2016 10:05 PM

About four years ago I put in a friend request to a chick I used to date years ago. She accepted my request, but rarely posted, and never responded to me. After a year I noticed on her birthday her husband posted saying that he missed her. I didn't know her husband well - we met while we were in the Marines - but I hit him up and asked.... Turns out she had died from cancer about a year after we friended each other.

I keep her on my FB just as a reminder.

Oddly enough I've become friends with her daughter.

2 years isn't enough time to learn how to spell though? "Mourn the loss" asshole :disgust

@ op, maybe contact facebook, you don't want to unfriend him & maybe everyone's thinking similar. Although, isn't it nice remembering your friends birthday anyway?

Deej 12-14-2016 03:09 PM

I'm fine with reminders but what I don't like is when family members take it on themselves to "maintain" the profile and make updates on their behalf and continually post from their profile to theirs of how they miss them or whatever.

nico-t 12-14-2016 03:12 PM

God I am glad i never had a personal facebook... everything i hear and read about it is so idiotic and pathetic

DatingNetwork-Derrick 12-14-2016 03:38 PM

FB is the worst now. No one uses it. Only SnapChat. And you don't have to worry about dead people popping up.
