Scientists have just detected a major change to the Earth?s oceans linked to a warming climate

We're so fucked.

A large research synthesis, published in one of the world?s most influential scientific journals, has detected a decline in the amount of dissolved oxygen in oceans around the world ? a long-predicted result of climate change that could have severe consequences for marine organisms if it continues.

The paper, published Wednesday in the journal Nature by oceanographer Sunke Schmidtko and two colleagues from the GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel, Germany, found a decline of more than 2 percent in ocean oxygen content worldwide between 1960 and 2010. The loss, however, showed up in some ocean basins more than others. The largest overall volume of oxygen was lost in the largest ocean ? the Pacific ? but as a percentage, the decline was sharpest in the Arctic Ocean, a region facing Earth?s most stark climate change.

The loss of ocean oxygen ?has been assumed from models, and there have been lots of regional analysis that have shown local decline, but it has never been shown on the global scale, and never for the deep ocean,? said Schmidtko, who conducted the research with Lothar Stramma and Martin Visbeck, also of GEOMAR.

fairly obvious, considering great barrier reef

but since Honey Bees are now being added to the endangered species list, this is probably the least of our concerns

Thanks, MR. Trump ...

Don't worry Red Hats will pray it away.

Clearly Trumps fault. Should have voted Hillary for better ocean balance. And no I didn't react to the timeline in the article stating 1960-2010 cause I'm pro and better educated than the rest, no need to read jibberish.

Trump ain't do it, but he will make sure this continues. Hilary woulda did some other sneaky shit like make moves to slow it down so the Dems could have more years of "planned Parenthood" or some other weird shit.

Congress passed a law several years ago during the Bush administration that limits the fines companies can get served for dumping waste into the ocean
it's like $50,000 and the chances of getting caught are a million to one

we're fucked... well, my kids are fucked... I'm just in for no more winters in Tampa

Rochard 02-23-2017 11:19 AM
