The govt called it "unsettled land claims" because they rounded up the Indians then moved them off that section of the reservation by force, when they built dams in the river. The land they are fighting over was always part of their reservation which was agreed upon during the treaties with the tribes.

I do not believe this. Most of the protesters were removed yesterday with many being arrested. The remaining ones set the camp on fire. This morning there was only a few protesters left and the local authorities were giving them the chance to leave or be arrested as were some yesterday. What role could the military play at all?
