I had both of my big toenails permanently removed.
My nails were healthy, but the sides were well embedded into my toes. every 4-6 months I had to use a special toolkit to dig the sides out. Finally I simply called around and found a doc that did both for $400.
Make sure you call around if you decide to do such a thing, difference between paying $400 instead of 1500. Granted the doctor only cared about getting me in and out as fast as possible. Almost 2 months of healing here, I heal slower. Nasty drainage and lots of pain initially from the skin always buckling up and breaking the scab from no nail holding it down anymore. Lots of marathoners and distance runners do this to all their toes. People that also have serious and persistent fungus problems. Or like me, constant digging of nails into flesh. Save looks, worth it, no more ingrown nails and I have no intention of climbing any trees. Hope this makes your day. :) Left Toe http://i.imgur.com/6JuFMqX.png http://i.imgur.com/lDBkcq8.png Right Toe http://i.imgur.com/lJuqlc1.png http://i.imgur.com/8F61Fgp.png |

I just had to click on this thread.

Weird. I was pondering about my toenails today.

Thanks for your diary entry. We look forward to your next one. :thumbsup

Wouldn't it had been easier to cut your toenails regularly? I just use a curved scissors and a newer sharp toe nail clipper to get at the sides of my big toenails that have a tendency to ingrow -- I just round the edges once a month or so.

My toes are almost never exposed in public or anywhere else. This isn't like teeth, I wouldn't have all my teeth pulled because brushing and maintaining them is annoying. lol. Quote:
I felt a little sad parting just before the operation but no regrets from there on out. |

no toenails - no problems, radical solution :thumbsup
actually the main thing that you feel better now |

I had one ingrown toe nail ( biggly toe ) after treating for fungus.
I got it operated for 550.00 $CAD : the doctor only removed a small part of the root ( under local anasthesia ) so it does not grow back in the skin. Looks good up to now .... Your operation is gross .... :throwup |
