Eating Dogs Banned in Taiwan?A First in Asia

This is awesome! The way I've seen animals for food treated with no regard in Asia I'm glad at least Taiwan won't be inhumanely storing them and preparing them for consumption while still alive.

------

Eating Dogs Banned in Taiwan, A First in Asia

Killing, selling and consuming dogs (and cats) is now illegal in Taiwan. Will South Korea and mainland China follow suit?

In a landmark step for animal welfare, Taiwan has outlawed the consumption of dog and cat meat?the first country in Asia to do so.

Anyone who buys or eats the meat can be fined up to $8,200. Back in 1998 Taiwan made it illegal to slaughter dogs and cats and sell their meat, but an underground commercial market persisted. And now Taiwan has now doubled down on punishment: Those who cause deliberate harm to a cat or dog can be fined up to $65,000, and serve two years of jail time?up from a maximum of one year previously.

The consumption of dog meat in East Asian countries has sparked an outcry from the public and animal advocates around the world in recent years, with China?s notorious Lychee and Dog Meat Festival a flashpoint for the fight. The festival, held every June in Yulin, southern China, sees 10,000 dogs killed over a ten-day period. Millions of people have signed petitions calling for the end of the annual event.

They just want you to think that. how are they going to enforce it?

While walking around Korea they have kiosks set up with dogs that were rescued from dog farms, they try their hardest to give them away. Many Asian cultures look down on dog eating, my gf said it's basically the old fashioned or hillbilly version of Koreans that still eat dog. Not sure if same goes for Taiwan, but looks that way.

Mostly true but there are still lots of restaurants that serve it

It's not so much the fact people eat the animals, it's the excessive torture and cruelty that it entails :disgust

In that case why only dogs were banned?

jscott 04-14-2017 04:18 AM

It doesnt take any law to realize that killing anything is pretty bad, and you should not do it. Dogs, cows, deer, etc

Their pain is felt the same as ours.

.... actually, breeding, for ANY reason is pretty sickening. And the only beings on Earth that do that, human. But that's a whole other topic

Scott McD 04-14-2017 04:28 AM

I actually find it hard to slate any country now and what they do since the UK has somehow just accepted Halal meat as a food source, when it is supposed to be a banned practice.

Disgusting and very typical of the UK...

That may be true but irrelevant to his question.

You answered that all (cows, dogs, deers...) should be banned while his question was why dogs should be separated from that list.

pussyfied society bowing down to minority of invaders.
Do you imagine jockeys in middle east bowing down to minority British immigrants in a similar way?

Truly disgusting, PC media made weakling society that are making their own suicide.

Coming from a Slovakian, in Slovakia that has no regulation on Halal & Koscher slaughtering, ever :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Let's talk about Slovakias weak society in another thread you always point fingers forgetting your own society & contradictions.

My biggest contradiction in life is being a proud meateater and turning a blind eye to the suffering & health of the animals I consume.

I've gotten better in buying free range etc. but I know the food industry is a scam and I'm likely not getting what I'm paying extra for.

Did you know Kosher & Halal killing are the same except for how they bless the animal? There is disagreement on whether full stunning of the animal is whithin their religious doctrin but they agree light electric shock stunning is acceptable.

Many do, but they're kinda hidden, or low key (in sk anyway). It wasn't very long ago when they started to change. Koreans love their puppies. Dog eaters are really looked down upon.

Though my gf did have dog meat once when she was a kid, visiting her grandma they still followed the old ways. She didn't know what she was eating at the time.

As a defender of animals, sadly, we'll take any win that we can get. If can get dogs banned from anywhere, it's a step towards progress. Next would be they actually enforce it. Next would be another country follows same footsteps. Next would be hoping that those laws eventually influence against eating dogs in that country, opens eyes to animal pain and torture. Etc etc

Topic introduced by ScotMD was halal meat in UK.
Not sure what Slovakia has to do with it, but thanks for making 100% off topic response, specimen.
Ad hominem power!

Cat is more tender than dog, but horse is more flavorful than either.

Love me some monkey brains too!

Of course, nothing is better than a quick-seared goose fois gras.

Spot on (as always) ... In my local chinese takeaway I'm positive they serve me cat meat instead of beef, and it is indeed really tender.

Yup, light electric shock then slit it's throat while it's still conscious. You wouldn't want to give it too big a dose and knock it out though would you?

Why do you eat poor defenseless plants? Their pain is felt the same as ours.

Go away and hug a fucking tree, apologize to it for slaughtering so many of their kin for your sick pleasure.

you see guys, perfect example of ignorance. I dont speak bad to anyone who eats meat. I just believe that we should respect and cherish anything that helps us live a better life, respect animals, trees, good people, pussy and hot girls for that matter too haha.

... no respect needed for losers, idiots, ignorants, RandazzoXXX fits right in with these :1orglaugh

That'd be wonderful

As humans, who are supposedly intelligent beings, we should just train ourselves to not be wasteful of anything, anything at all. Whether it being animals, plants, or bricks or plastic. Makes sense ey?

Caitlin BongaCash 04-16-2017 04:09 AM

we definitely should learn how to eat the sunlight :stoned

Because pork beef and lamb comes from farmed animals. Dogs are mostly carnivores, making them expensive to farm. So most of the dog meat you eat in a restaurant are peoples stolen pets. Don't try to compare farm animals with domesticated pets.

And Asians believe that beating and torturing the dog before death makes the meat tastier. Just one of many backward beliefs.
