USS Omaha clears acceptance trials and us ready for combat!

After being christened just last year (video below) the Navy's future USS Omaha (LCS 12) successfully conducted all of its acceptance trials, May 12, and is on its way to San Diego ready for combat!

She doesn't have as robust defenses as a destroyer as she's made for shallow waters and delivery of a small assault force to shore and launching underwater vehicles. Her hangar houses two Seahawk helicopters, see full capabilities summary below.

------

USS Omaha clears last major hurdle before delivery

She has the capabilities of a small assault transport, including a flight deck and hangar for housing two SH-60 or MH-60 Seahawk helicopters, a stern ramp for operating small boats, and the cargo volume and payload to deliver a small assault force with fighting vehicles to a roll-on/roll-off port facility. Standard armaments include Mk 110 57 mm guns and RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missiles.

They are also equipped with autonomous air, surface, and underwater vehicles. Possessing lower air defense and surface warfare capabilities than destroyers, the LCS concept emphasizes speed, flexible mission modules and a shallow draft.

This will be part of the future of modern warfare. We will no longer have large fleets going up against large fleets. Instead it will be smaller ships like this deploying small units into an area for a single task.

Tgr LCS (Littoral Combat Ship) series is definitely the future a beautiful machine, versatile and strong for its size. There are tons of configurations for different missions it's really impressive. I'm not a navy guy so I'm easily impressed I think :1orglaugh.
