If you have Funds in Coinbase. Now might be a good time to transfer them

Coinbase sucks.

It doesn't work and it's going to crash and burn. If you hold crypto there now might be a good time to move it.

I'm wary of poloniex too. 7 weeks+ waiting for level 2 verification, trollbox was inundated with people in the same situation... as you no doubt know they closed the trollbox to 'reallocate mods to support'. That means either:

1. a bunch of mods are now sifting through, and have access to, gov't issued photo IDs

2. they are lying through their teeth, and mods aren't doing any 'support' work at all (vastly different jobs, moderating a chat doesn't equal sorting out verification problems, transaction problems, withdrawal problems, as were filling up the trollbox due to desperate people jumping in there to try and get some replies or timeframes on weeks old tickets)

I've about 7 days left before all my coins are out of there, bittrex for me from now on.

btw UK peeps, I found coinfloor.co.uk the other day.. possibly/probably old news for some, but bank transfer deposit done in under 24 hours, full verification done in under 24 hours. Seems an older resource that did have problems but now is apparently ok... that's just on reading/fact-finding I done so is in no way to be taken as a recommendation other than fast verification/GBP deposits.

^experience, not advice :2 cents:

How and where do I move away from Coinbase?

are you guys having problems buying? or selling it? I've used coinbase for a few years and just bought 1/2 btc yesterday and transferred it out to my destination and it took 30 seconds to buy it, and maybe 10 minutes for the btc to arrive and be available at the destination. They were available to me immediately when I bought it. Credit card limit is 3k a week and bank xfer has no limit and they like paypal give me the btc instantly then deduct the money the next biz day.

Tasty1 06-19-2017 04:35 AM

I read the amount of customers at coinbase doubled in a few weeks.
If they get hacked, prices will drop.

MikeAMS 06-19-2017 04:40 AM

Never used it.. But will probably not look into it then

Sounds like Cryptsy in their last days. Some of the mods were able to cancel withdraw requests but apart from that all they did was spout the Party Line, and if anyone got a little too agitated about their funds, they were banned from chat.

I wonder how many of those 'staff' knew exactly what was going on. [For those not in the know, it is alleged that the Cryptsy admin stole millions of dollars worth of Bitcoin and fled to China. The company was insolvent even when they were promising things would get better Real Soon Now.]

You sure about that?

NatalieK 06-20-2017 11:38 AM

I´ve only been using coinbase since January this year, but seems a stable site & I like the simplicity of the site & how it works.

rowan 06-20-2017 12:08 PM

"it works fine for me" doesn't really help if the company goes bust. There have been numerous hacks and scams at Bitcoin exchanges, and there are not always clear early warning signs that a company is flailing.

You should never store your funds with a third party. It's not a bank, your funds are not insured, and the company's servers are being constantly probed for weaknesses.

Tasty1 06-20-2017 12:36 PM

Trust every online wallet as much as you would trust epassporte.
In 2 weeks, 2 online ether wallets where hacked.

To be fair, there were signs in both those cases that something was not right.

There's still been been plenty of online wallets or exchanges that abruptly closed down, either due to a massive hack, or a scam by the staff/founder (often explained away as [in airquotes]: "a massive hack"). Bye bye funds.

There's probably plenty of other services which have had some customer funds stolen, either through a hack (possibly not disclosed), or through the guy running it deciding to "borrow" some (definitely not disclosed), and you'd never know they were running with insufficient funds to back all of their customer's listed balances... until it's too late.

I have a coinbase and a gemini account. So far so good but I did just receive the hardware wallet I ordered. I'm def going to rely on my hardware wallet rather than an exchange/service. From what I understand, coinbase and gemini are FDIC insured. That does give a little bit of piece of mind when it comes to having USD in your wallet. I trade often but soon I will have some positions long term and with those positions I'm transferring my crypto to the hardware wallet.

I don't have too much experience with Polo, but just today I did make a small purchase with them. I look at it this way, do the best you can to cover your ass. Def get a hardware wallet!

For anyone delving into BTC, beware of August 1st! Do some research on it. Could be a very volatile BTC market in the next month with a possible crash. Just my 2 cents, please do your own research on this one.

2MuchMark 06-20-2017 08:15 PM

Don't use coinbase.

they closed trollbox coz they were getting too many complaints of pending tickets and it was doing more harm than good .
i moved my coins from there.

bitstamp took one month to tell me to reupload my docs.
i guessthey all are same.
less staff, too much money.

Nothing is wrong with Coinbase. Aside from blockchain congestions and support delays, all of these HUGE bitcoin businesses are getting an overwhelming amount of attention and transactions recently and things are slower than normal.

That's it.

I agree that Coinbase isn't going anywhere, but I still don't suggest using them. I would highly suggest GEMINI, this one has the best user interface of all imo.

... and yes, as Rowan said, MtGox had a sure sign of going down, I was able to remove all my BTC from them in the early prewarning days, but many chose to keep their bitcoins with them due to 1. laziness or 2. greed (as mtgox listed price MUCH higher than real market value)

i use coinbase only for buying btc, cause i can use my cc to buy easily, then i just transfer it off to my blockchain wallet

jscott 06-21-2017 07:43 AM

^^ ya, i've done that too with no problems
