If I had to venture a guess.... If I understand correctly, being a pilot used to be a great job - great pay, great hours, great benefits. Somewhere along the line that's changed. Not enough pay, too many hours, too many rules and regulations. The pilots we have now are older and more prone to health problems.

Just guessing but I thought I read that somewhere.

The stress kills you when working as a pilot. I was educated as an commercial pilot and spend years in the US as a cargo pilot, and its one of the reasons you get a lot of money and benefits.... because most of them die young
