Excel Help - Strange Output in Cells

For the love of God can someone please help.

This has been going on for a few weeks and it's driving me crazy.

Whenever I enter a date (it doesn't matter the date) in the format 12/10/2017 it gets converted to an amount of £43,020.00
WHY?????

Right click the column and format its cells from currency to date

Cant help with excel, but I've done time so can probably assist with the cell part. What strange output is your cell mate producing?
