Hannah is the first such case in Australia and while she was declined this year more than likely she won't be next year. Like many sporting bodies, the AFL has no policy when it comes to transgender athletes. Hannah is helping rewrite those rules.

A really inspirational story - a woman trained all her life to make her national team, and her spot gets taken by a transgender man (either because he outperforms her, or because someone wants to promote transgenderism). At this rate in 10 years all women's sports will be completely dominated by transgender men.

Also remember that even for people that identify themselves as trans-gender, they are still genetically the same as the day they were born. Surgery can make cosmetic changes to their primary sexual characteristics (i.e. appearance of genitalia), and hormone therapy can change secondary sexual characteristics (hair, body fat proportions, breasts, voice, etc.), but genetically they are still the XY or XX that they were born with

Sorry, but as progressive as I am, I know that even the average guy is usually stronger than a strong girl. When I'm at the gym, I can see a girl who looks strong deadlift 225, and she struggles to get the weight up. Then I see a guy who weighs just a little more than her with almost no physique lift the weight easily. Is that enough info for me? I think so. I'm not saying there aren't girls who are stronger, but they're outliers.

And someone could say there's other variables besides strength in physical competition. But it sure as fuck helps more than anything else.

Hannah Mouncey is only declined because she's the first to apply, the sole reason for her decline is.. there's no policy when it comes to transgender athletes in AFL football.

Next year there will be, Mouncey is part of the panel writing those rules, and she will be welcome to apply again for next season.
