Has anyone noticed that NSFW results are filtered hard in Google?!?

Hi everyone,

As title says, have you noticed that since middle of September (when there was an update from Google) the adult related searches are filtered hard? Also not to mention shitload of results with Google Books, wtf is that.

As result, the organic traffic has decreased dramatically everywhere (me and others).

Unless there are special keys like "fucking", "porn", it is quite hard to get adult results. For example, keyword "sex" seems to be filtered almost completely, regardless of phrase used.

I've attached an image with search results for adult terms, page 2 in Google.com, showing irrelevant results of Google Books between adult results:

imgur.com/a/986ej

Thoughts, rumours?

brassmonkey 11-21-2017 12:27 PM

jeezus you are right! i found this on page two! "My Wife, My Kids, My God!" i don't give a shit that's their fire to put out.

bns666 11-21-2017 12:36 PM

wow pornhub gone for keyword porn

windstorm 11-21-2017 12:58 PM

Haha yes, now I see xvideos with tag porn as first and pornhub 5th place. Rest of page filled with non adult :1orglaugh

Quality results from Google for porn:

Porn Pizza Delivery - SNL - YouTube
youtube.com/watch?v=qkV1GHYsDzI
3 days ago - A young girl (Aidy Bryant) interrupts her babysitter's (Heidi Gardner) alone time with the pizza deliveryman (Chance the Rapper). #SNL #SNL43 ...

RustyRanks 11-21-2017 01:03 PM

I wrote about the books.google issue a while back rustyranks.com/books-google-crowding-porn-serps/

It's since the September 20th update, porn serps are really messed up with lots of irrelevant links to mainstream sites. I think it'll get sorted when Google update the algorithm from Sept 20.

Bladewire 11-21-2017 01:04 PM

Google porn results for me, from my phone in California:

1st Page - all non porn sites

2nd Page - 3rd result is only porn site on page 2 - Xvideos - the rest are non porn sites.

3rd Page - All non porn sites

4th Page - All non porn sites but for 7th result - Pornhub

windstorm 11-21-2017 01:19 PM

Hi Rusty,

Interesting, yes, that update in September was a real shit. I lost 50% of organic traffic across my network of sites. And I am talking about 40-50,000 daily organic visitors, not some small numbers.

Thing is, we are in November 21st and I see no sign of rollback, on the contrary, even more organic traffic lost. The most annoying part is being in uncertainty, no feedback from Google , nothing.

Bladewire: so this is widespread. Going back to the past, this means they are actively preparing for a big update, or at least hope so.

freek01 11-21-2017 01:21 PM

I noticed this also. And I have discussed this with lots of webmasters and everybody sees these idiotic SERPS. It is nuts. If you want to search for porn you have to switch to bing because googe shows nothing anymore.
Most anoying is that if you finally find a result between all the books.google results it is xvideos or xnxx nothing else.

Barry-xlovecam 11-21-2017 01:26 PM

What about Bing? Does anyone pay close attention anymore?

So Google is not your friend anymore?

Idiotic or not -- what does Google stand to gain from this?

RyuLion 11-21-2017 01:27 PM

This is good, but I'm hoping they bury tube sites more..

femdomdestiny 11-21-2017 01:27 PM

Intredasting. But the question for people noticing this is: for what keywords? Are we talking about the general stuff like porn and sex or more detailed things? I am getting all I need to get for the niche and long tail keywords.

they can't! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh word of mouth and people just knowing where free porn is

windstorm 11-21-2017 01:29 PM

Yes, it is insane. Well, Google cannot continue so, because they will lose visitors to Bing and others. And a visitor that goes to Bing to search for adult, might want to search for other stuff too, unrelated to adult.

So that's a visitor lost for G revenue. No wonder they bought their way into iPhone, Firefox etc. for their search engine to be default one.

windstorm 11-21-2017 01:35 PM

I work in niches and I see a lot nonsense. If it's not Google Books or non-adult sites, then there is a ton of websites that use redirects, malware, pure spam and are ranked in top.

So the situation for niche / long tailed keywords is this:

xnxx/xvideos (a LOT) + other tubes in top 3-5, then a mixing of crap sites or risky even to click on them + google books etc.

Klen 11-21-2017 02:01 PM

Nothing really new, google has been on censoring road since penguin update.
First they started with double-meaning words, like pussy, high heels and other in that style, then they started with even two word keywords, and now they going further.
Tho, 3 words keywords seems to be ok . So basicly, we need to teach surfers to use atleast 3 keywords to find porn properly lol.

femdomdestiny 11-21-2017 02:07 PM

this is not good because the big players with huge budgets will go for the long tail keywords that are still easy to rank for in some niches

The thing with long tail keywords, classic seo strategy, which is basically building tons of backlinks, it's not working. Since each long tail keyword have few hits mostly, and there is millions of such keywords with no way to determine howmuch each of it bring traffic, there is now way to push backlinks individually to them.

windstorm 11-21-2017 02:14 PM

Or there is another way: surfers going to bing, duckduckgo etc :)

I am not saying it's the perfect choice, but I see as a natural switch when someone cannot find easy the content.

Google's goal is to give surfer what he wants, not what Google wants, it defeats the purpose.

Yeah but google was always anti-porn, it is pure wonder how they didnt banned porn completely.

Can't agree on this. There are many people here who saw the effect of long tail optimisation and there are clear results of that process. it takes knowledge and tools but results are there. Picking a proper keyword is equally important and having a good site that those visitors see as the valuable source helps a lot.

Yeah but the thing with long tail keywords was how to using them emphasis was on creating relevant/deep content and not just backlink building as tubes is doing it. But time will tell.

Also, just realized how this censorship does apply to long tail keywords as well, forgot how my default search engine is yahoo.
As example i used following keyword: "fuck me in the ass with stick" and on yahoo i got 100% porn sites, while on google 100% mainstream sites including mentioned google books.

windstorm 11-21-2017 02:37 PM

I am surprised though that here on GFY no one made comments about it, since it's already so for quite a while? If not here, where else? :) Definitely not on Google forums, it's a waste there.

Big players (tubes) are working on onsite SEO for longtails every day. I am looking at the results constantly and it is clear that they invest in that. What is going and what worries me on is that now they will go even deeper into the details, and that can be a problem.

Still, this move can make users move to other SE. Duck DuckGo is used more and more, I can feel that.

fuck me in the ass with stick - is useless from the perspective of monthly searches and time invested to optimize page for that. I've just checked.

This has been going on for years. So i feel it's unlikely that google will roll it back. Google can't monetize porn so they are systematically eliminating porn results. As soon as all the porn is gone they'll put in mainstream ads in there.

The only plus is that possibly people will switch to Bing.

Yeah, it's been happening for a while and maybe just started happening more. About 6-9 months ago I had a blog that ranked well for a few adult keywords then suddenly, overnight, the traffic disappeared. I used to regularly rank in the top 5 for those keywords. After the change, those keywords now bring up stuff that has very little or nothing to do with them, but no porn, at least not until several pages in where nobody sees it.

bns666 11-21-2017 03:23 PM

it happened the same with many bdsm, bondage, fetish, femdom keywords and phrases long time ago actually...

Well that's the thing, they do monetize porn, but in different way. There are Google ads with live webcams, for example, so they make money. Also, people that search for porn use Google for many other searches as well. It's a habit.

But what if that habit changes? If I look for porn and cannot find what I want in Google, I switch to Bing for example. I find there what I want, but I just remembered I wanted to check some mainstream stuff as well. Etc. etc.

It's a huge market and so many surfers. I was checking on statcounter data, it is freely available and I noticed Oct 2016 vs Oct 2017 that Google lost 0.37% of traffic, while Bing, Yahoo and DuckDuckgo gained. Maybe it's a trend? Remains to see if data is accurate enough.

But right now, I do get more traffic combined from Bing/Yahoo etc than Google in my network.

Klen 11-21-2017 04:06 PM

Also, perhaps we could get some mainstream journalist to write how google is on crusade vs porn, that could move some traffic from google to bing/yahoo faster.

The Porn Nerd 11-21-2017 04:33 PM

Around mid-August I submitted my sites to Google's Mobile-friendly checker thingy. Two days later I lost 40% of my traffic POOF! I think they crawled all my sites then in advance of the Sept.20th update so (once again) The Porn Nerd is ahead of the curve. Sigh. :(

And no, the traffic has not returned despite renewed efforts. I also just checked and indeed saw another dip beginning Sept.20th.

GLMBV 11-22-2017 02:15 AM

Yup same here lost rankings to really weird results, google books, one page sites, redirect sites.

The most annoying one was that we ranked for the term fuck for free. And then that asshole dj khaled came out with a song called fuck me for free and now he dominates the first page with spotify, lyrics etc

Serps since 2 months or so have become fully retarded

Goethe 11-22-2017 03:08 AM

Something else of interest re: Bing. When you do a search, say MILF, usually when you hit the videos tab, you get a bunch of clips from the tube sites. I just checked, all the clips are from YouTube :error

windstorm 11-22-2017 06:06 AM

Hmm indeed, weird video results at Bing too. Google is usually preparing more serious updates around big holidays, like now with Thanksgiving and Black Friday.

The update comes Thursday to Friday, from what I saw in the past updates. I am fairly sure they will do an update for adult, it doesn't make any sense right now, to do such purge of adult results. Users want porn, not Google books. But that update still taking an awful lot of time to arrive.

Denny 11-22-2017 06:06 AM

It's nothing new at all but it seems Google's SEPRs for porn related terms are now more retarded than ever.

windstorm 11-22-2017 06:13 AM

Yes I know, it happened in past as well and also more recent updates filtered the words with double meaning. But right now the filter is greater than ever and takes too long to be changed.

Current SERP (US) for "porn":

https://i.imgur.com/PIbzSeM.jpg

But it's changing constantly, sometime there is no porn site in the TOP30-50 for that term.

even no porn sites in top100 from what i see right now

So is porn going to be filtered for good? That is the question...

The Porn Nerd 11-22-2017 07:58 AM

So this means everyone's sales and revenues are down for the past few months?

Thanks Google! :(

When did Google cared about anyone else??

femdomdestiny 11-22-2017 02:30 PM

if you were targeting keywords like the PORN and was ranked on the first page, then you already made enough money so you don't care what happens next.

This is what happens when people let the fox into the henhouse. Google baits webmasters with free webmaster tools and then uses the information they collect to fuck over those webmasters.

Tell that to XVideos and Pornhub.
I'm sure they care VERY much what happens next.
