Making WP site over already active Joomla site

Greetings,

friend has an older Joomla site and now he wants to make it in WP. I can't use script to convert it because there are some errors on Joomla installation (archive gives error 404 etc.).

What is the most painless way to do it?

Here's my plan:

Go to abc.com/cpanel and install fresh WP in /wp/ folder (abc.com/wp/). I'll copy manually content from abc.com to abc.com/wp/, install additional plugins etc. and make the site as similar as abc.com

Last part - make the domain abc.com point to abc.com/wp/.

Is this a good plan?

He'll lose original URLs (from abc.com), but I don't think he cares about that.

I never do this but is a lots of plugins and toturials how to move site from joomla to wp.

obviously this solution probably will not be fully 1: 1. but you can save a lots of time.

I advise you to keep the same URL structure. or redirect 301 to new ones - thousands of plugins and guides are on the internet about it.

Thanks for your reply. Current URL structure on Joomla is /date/title/, I plan to use /category/title on WP. Site is not commercial (it doesn't have ads), but often publishes news about company activities.

I'll check more into those plugins for migration, but I'm not sure I'll go that way (I'm afraid of screwing up active Joomla site).
