I Used To Live Here...

This was filmed pretty much at the back of my old place going back many years - Dunedin has some of the best beaches in the world...

Wow.. if only summer there was longer than 3 days a year :P

My family are original settlers of Taieri beach bit further south

CurrentlySober 04-03-2018 04:07 AM

Looks nice but could be a bit hazardous sunbathing with all those wild horses charging about...

On the bright side, think of all the poop they'd leave behind.

Yeah the sweaters and Jackets make me want to run right to that beach.

I will stick with my local beaches.

Different cultures you know, the big decider if its a good beach or a bad beach in NZ's south is... " Can you catch whitebait there? "

My local beach as a kid..

you go in the water your dead, about 20 meters off it drops 200 meters BUT.. and this is all important.. very good whitebaiting.

Not since I was a kid, family come a shore without even shoes as the story goes, they were from Islay and headed to NZ to seek their fortune. We are probably related, mothers side was Fellowfields, grandfather had a few butcher shops so was well known around the Dunedin area, they ended up at Roxburgh, my mother married one of the apprentices and they ended up working around the Dams when they were built finally settling in Waimo where I was born :) My first job was at Mtcook, cooking so I was back in Dunedin going to polytech there. Fucking great pub/ band scene there in the 80's

These are more beaches for taking long lonely walks and feeling "at one with nature" - Not for topping up your tan...

I used to go whitebaiting in Karitane at the mouth of the Waikouaiti - The fear of imminent death is nothing if there is a chance for some whitebait patties at the end of the day.....
