Let's say you're married with kids, and your daughter goes off to college, and she gets a good summer internship in Washington DC.

She calls you up, asking for your advice on choosing subsidized housing options. Her choices:

a) East side of Washington DC, in a black neighborhood, for $800/month.

b) West side of Washington DC, in a white neighborhood, for $1,000/month.


Both have equal commute times to work.

That's all the info you have, and she needs to make a decision ASAP (deadline).


Do you recommend that she choose:

a) East side / black neighborhood, because it would be a good multicultural experience, and it's cheaper.

b) West side / white neighborhood, because white neighborhoods are safer, and worth the extra cost.

Dc is in america... freedom to live next to or far away from whoever you want... for whatever reason you want, as long as you can afford it.

No idea on those areas. I do know that racism in the US is a real thing, and black people have a harder time achieving wealth than white people so in order to avoid poverty and crime ridden areas, you are statically better off recommending the white area.

If you think the black majority areas are worse just because they are black then yes, you are racist. It is not a huge bar to climb over. Just quit making decisions based on skin color.

I prefer living by the beach in a warm climate. I lived 5 years in Australia on the beach, 10 years in California by the beach before that. Another 10 years now in California by the beach since Australia. I'm looking at land to buy inland now. 25 years living on the beach or within walking distance and I've experienced it enough. Maybe I'll be back I dunno. I think I want to live where there are seasons, but not too cold at winter. Not sure.

Given the statistics, not wanting to live around negroes is a WISE choice, not a racist choice. The diversity argument goes out the window when you ask what benefit does diversity provide whites. It provides none.

If I had a choice of neighborhoods, I’d live where the beach were close, stores were familiar, and where crime stats were better.

I rented an apartment in Boston that was mostly Hispanic and black. Didn’t phase me at all. But people heard the city and made comments about “spics and ni**ers.” The neighborhood was Hispanic and black.

Crime happens in white neighborhoods, too. And I know someone is thinking, “better stuff to steal.”

I live in Washington Heights in NYC, a Spanish neighborhood (el barrio). Racists probably would not feel comfortable there. Me? I feel safer here than down on Wall Street or Tribeca or Chelsea (all white).
