language setup for new tube site
Hi Guys & Girls,
Quick question, we are setting up a new adult tube site and we saw that some big guys like Pornhub or xhamster are having the language tag as subdomain instead of directory. So like: it.pornhub instead of pornhub.com/it/video What would be better for a new site? as subdomain or as directory? And at what things should i think when i set it up as subdomain? Main question, whats better for SEO :D |
Nobody :P ?

It does matter from a seo Pov... Which ever one is easier to manage for you and your team
|
Most popular sites set up separate subdomains for this, like:
de.redtube.com Google treats each separate subdomain as its own entity so it is wise to set up subdomains for these different languages. |
Thanks for the reply. However would every subdomein have a unique sitemap? And how about content? All the same for every language? Would take some huge storage...

Don't use subdomains. Use the subfolder or a parameter. Google treats different subdomains as different websites, so the value of your website will be wasted with the subdomain system, because you will have to work in building a reputation for every subdomain. Just use the subfolder or a parameter, and don't forget to set up properly the meta tags in every page indicating the other languages' versions.

do you really need to use subdomain/subfolder?
i think in PHP, most browser sends HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE to indicate what locale the surfer is in $locale = Locale::acceptFromHttp($_SERVER['HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE']); echo $locale; // returns "en_US" then just use that to detect the correct language pack to use. a common practice is to have a dropdown in the menu, so that users can choose what language to view the contents (and store that in cookie for their future visit) |
I will prefer pornhub.com/it/video
