We Now Know Why Russia's Only Aircraft Carrier Pumps Out So Much Black Smoke

mazut!

Its all about the fuel.

Engineering difficulties are given as a potential reason for the Kuznetsov's super-smoky nature. Vice Admiral Pyotr Svyatashov explained, saying that because of improper calibration in the preheating or injection mechanisms, the Mazut injected into the combustion chamber might not have had time to combust fully—in other words, the partially burned products are causing the black smoke.

dyna mo 09-10-2018 10:44 AM

For most sailors who served on the Admiral Kuznetzov, Mazut is the stuff of legends. The ultra thick, tarry black substance that powers the ship is known for being rather toxic, sticky, and not easy to get out of clothes.

mazut!

BaldBastard 09-10-2018 10:53 AM

Its just the smoke vent, there's 2500 ruskis on board smoking a packet of ciggys an hour plus internal heating is burning oil drums and open fires. high tech shit

most large diesels on boats are fueled by "heavy fuel oil" which is essentially tar. its very strange to handle and mess with.

It puffs out black smoke and leaves a oil slick trail so they can find it when it breaks down.

The Russian navy’s flagship travels with a massive tugboat in case it breaks down

You May Puke Watching This Tug Boat Attempt To Tow Russia's Carrier In Rough Seas

What happens when your only aircraft carrier breaks down off the coast of Spain in very rough seas? Call the big tugboat that’s been shadowing you for just such an occasion and attempt a tow. The result is this well, stomach turning video that shows the Russian tug Nikolay Chiker attempting a tow operation on the Admiral Kuznetsov, Russia’s only aircraft carrier.

Wrong background music in this video.
Here is what they should have used.

Yeah, the part about it being all about the fuel is misleading, it's an engineering issue re: burning it. Although I think there are varying quality levels of fuel oil. This mazot shit reminds me of that ultra low quality fuel oil from WW2.

U.S. Navy’s Costliest Warship Suffers New Failure at Sea
The Gerald R. Ford, the U.S. Navy’s costliest warship, suffered a new failure at sea that forced it back to port and raised fresh questions about the new class of aircraft carriers.

The previously undisclosed problem with a propulsion system bearing, which occurred in January but has yet to be remedied, comes as the Navy is poised to request approval from a supportive Congress to expedite a contract for a fourth carrier in what was to have been a three-ship class. It’s part of a push to expand the Navy’s 284-ship fleet to 355 as soon as the mid-2030s.

It's not easy or cheap making state of the art aircraft carriers. if we weren't responsible for policing the world, we wouldn't need them.

i understand, remember though, we didn't ask for the job, it was forced upon US because the rest of the world couldn't figure out how to get along with each other and tried to take it all away from each other while murdering each other. It just so happens they forced the job on a bunch of guys who have no probs making and dropping bombs. That's what we do.
They knew that then though.

i would think that the lack of cold water ports has contributed significantly to russia not having more carriers over time. global warming is changing that. but russia isn't a rich country so maybe it's borscht for a while so y'all can start on a carrier eh.

The commander of Russian National Guard and a former personal guard of Yeltsin and Putin has OFFICIALLY challenged Nanalny for a duel. He has challenged the guy who is in prison now and can't even respond to the brave dude, who has publicly promised to damage his health or even kill him. The press secretary of Putin, Mr. Peskov (his wife and step daughter are proud citizens of the USA, BTW) has said that SOMETIMES (that's a literal quote) if you are a former personal guard of Putin and if you REALLY want it, you can break the Russian Criminal Code (Article 119 - The threat of murder or serious harm to health which is up to 5 years in prison). Sounds like a bullshit and a pure nonsense? No, that's a 100% real story.
