Amazon S3 + Amazon CloudFront

Is anybody there using Amazon S3 + Amazon CloudFront to stream videos on Porn Tubes?
I've got some question :-)

Definitely do not use s3 or cloudfront for video streaming. They're exorbitantly expensive. You can get bandwidth for 1/10th the price with other companies.

In fact, I tried to use s3 as an origin server with a CDN from another company in front of it. s3 cost literally 10x as much as the CDN. Literally just to get the files to edge servers, cost 10x as much as getting files from edge servers to users. Absolutely unacceptable.

I love AWS, I use it for almost everything. All my sites are hosted on ec2 instances. But it's fucking terrible for video streaming.

You confirm what I was thinking. I calculated what would be the average daily cost for 10.000 Uniques/day and it's just fucking insane.

I am gonna store the videos on my dedicate server and use a CDN.

Have you heard about ahcdn.com ?
I saw a lot of porn tubes like Drtuber using it.

Haven't heard of it. In this industry I really can't recommend anyone other than Mojohost. Great support, great prices, adult-oriented. Their rates might or might not be negotiable depending on your situation. Can't hurt to ask.

ahcdn looks like it has great prices, the only problem seems to be that you pay up front and don't know if you'll use it all. But even the overage fees are better than you'll see on most CDNs. But I don't understand why they're charging for "storage"; it's a cdn, they should only be cacheing files. Not storing them.

But yeah, use a dedicated server as your origin, and drop a CDN in front of it. Back your video files up in s3.

Some CDN services also offer "CDN storage" so your files are stored on their servers. Usually you get some storage space for free and can pay for more if needed.

I guess that makes sense; if they're offering edge servers, they might as well offer origin servers if you want to use them. Just weird to see them bundled, I'm used to origin/edge being separate plans.

What's your CDN recommendations?

Actually the market is changing fast and the CDNs have been pushed to be creative with their offerings, thus the various bundles and new features. Many customers now expect the CDN to be able to take on any content-related task (storage, automated encoding, delivery, protection, etc.) and it seems that as long as the price is right, most customers prefer to store the content inside the CDN and call it a day instead of managing storage servers.

If you haven't taken a look at them, you might read about cloudflare: https://www.cloudflare.com/products/cloudflare-stream/

Streaming: $1 per thousand minutes viewed
Storage: $5 per thousand minutes of video stored

:2 cents:
