Federal Judge declares Obamacare unconstitutional

Article. As 5 Justices have already found it constitutional, it comes down to Roberts changing his mind about it being constitutional as a tax - or what Kavanaugh thinks.

Yep, this is going to end up in front of the Supreme Court.

There are a lot of issues with this case. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out. One thing for sure, if it gets struck down and Trump can't replace it, I'm fucked and won't be happy. I don't want to move, but I want to be able to buy health insurance and I have a preexisting condition.

Well everyone, say goodbye to your free healthcare. It was utopia for the few brief years that it lasted. :( Thanks Trump.

kane,

I am not sure how to solve the preexisting condition issue. Maybe a nationwide pool to keep costs lower? Balancing how to take care of the sick while not punishing those who are not is a tricky proposition - especially when many of the sick are that way because of their life choices. But people who use that as an excuse are forgetting about the millions who are sick through no fault of their own. Living in Gattaca is fine as long as you are perfect.

I saw an article claiming that we have spent 6 trillion dollars total on the war against terror. I think of that whenever I hear that there is not enough money to ever pay for things that benefit the common folk - you would almost think that taking care of them is not a priority for the federal government...

I've seen a few ideas that could help pay for a system that is Medicare for all or even Obamacare or a variation of it. One idea is that you put a tax on all Wall Street financial transactions. Nothing crazy, something like $10 per transaction. There are millions of transactions made every day so it could raise money quickly. Another is to cut the budget of the military. Of course, for any system to work they will have to do something about the crazy high costs of things like prescription drugs. At some point our leaders will have to say enough is enough and stand up to these companies, but right now they are in those companies pockets.

Sadly, the way insurance works is that the young and the healthy pay for the sick and the old then when the young and the healthy become the sick and the old, the new young and healthy pay for them. I think the attitude is starting to change and more people are buying into that reality, but we are still a ways away from it.
