They are legit...use escrow.com if in doubt...few domains are actually worth five figures

Not sure what your definition of "few" is, but there are a lot of .com domains that are worth five, six, or even seven figures.

Use escrow. I've (reluctantly) purchased squatted domains via them successfully in the past.
