The fam of the 2 men (brothers) said when police came on a no-knock warrant they asked are they "... friends of Jussie Mollett??" Police looked at the redacted fone records sent by Smollett to the po po and the po po already subpoenaed the wireless records from the provider. All they had to do was match the redacted numbers to the numbers provided by the carrier. They traced those numbers thru ride share apps and came up names/address of the two men. The men worked as extras on the show and peeps said they are friends to Smollett and worked out at the same gym.

Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi released a statement saying, "Due to new evidence as a result of today's interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the Empire case have now been released without charging and detectives have additional investigative work to complete."

Guglielmi said the individuals are no longer being classified as suspects. The investigation remains ongoing.

The lawyer representing the two men spoke Friday night after their release, saying she and the men gave police new evidence in the investigation.
