If you owned sex.com what would you do with it?

Just curious.

Mr Pheer 03-16-2019 03:54 PM

I'd sell it for 8 figures and be done.

This cause trying to make money from it is too much like work these days.

mce 03-16-2019 05:15 PM

Interesting.

At one point Playboy was running while I was GM at ICS. We made it into a huge TGP.

Someone needs to take control of that site and make it something fucking awesome. I would make it a huge site with multiple sections.... A tube site, a pinterest like site with user submitted content (like it is now I believe), a blog, and a TGP..... A little of something for everyone.

PornDude 03-17-2019 01:40 AM

Wait for Google to change his mind and associate "sex" keyword with porn.

Since this won't happen, sex is getting raped.

NatalieK 03-17-2019 02:30 AM

a forum to help everyone, a page with links to all sites related to sex, health & porn, update your own link no need for referral, a page for welcomed pics and fun, and a page for business. No trolling, they get kicked, just fun and enjoyment, how the adult entertainment business should be. It would be like a charity site to help all people in the adult business get started, everyone kind and friendly helping each other with no hindrances.

The site would always be worth millions, the value would either just continue to rise or stay the same, especially as it would continue to be the highest hit site on the net.

To cover all costs, a few paid advertising spots on the top and at the bottom, you know the similar things used to generate income on any forums :thumbsup

Dont think it worth millions as it's value is based on "type in traffic" , and dont think modern surfers do such thing, especially when it's popular to go to google and type full domain name as search keyword.

It was never worth millions of dollars.

I'm sorry, but in my eyes a domain is never worth more than the original cost - $15 or so. If you want to buy sex.com for $10 million.... Anyone could take that $10 million and buy a $15 domain and spend $10 million in marketing and make it a household name.

nah, starting with a good base domain name like sex.com is a huge advantage. I disagree that you could take 10 million and make something a household name. So many mainstream companies have failed miserably at this in every industry.

I think its a fantastic domain name but I am with the others, that domain is cursed and should just be sold in my opinion.

People are so familiar with sites like xvideos, pornhub, youjizz etc from word of mouth (best branding ever), that they go there to find porn. I am willing to bet the typeins for sex.com have been dropping steadily for years.

Yes i actually agree on this one - i think it's far better to invest into SEO and paid traffic then wasting money on premium domain.

If you look back in my posts a while ago I asked if I should buy a premium domain for $6k.

I ended up getting "niche"porn.com and I did pay it off no problem with proceeds from my business, sure, but the two best sites I have right now get 16x more traffic than the premium one does, with similar video / post counts.

I spent about the same time on each site.

Now, for novelty purposes, I'm glad I have the "niche"porn.com site, but it pretty much was a waste of $6k in terms of return.

Afterthought: I did link from my $6k paid domain site to other sites in the niche, so I'm not sure if it gave it extra link juice. It was regged about 20 years consistently so maybe it did help my portfolio. I'll never know. :pimp

ten dollar typos

The truly comical thing about this question being asked, is that 90% of people on the forum have no clue that it's been asked countless times in years past or why.

Yes i remember that thread and i am quite sure i told you several times not to do it :1orglaugh
I think domain age as seo factor was probably wrong idea coming from seo community. Even if it was seo factor before, now surely is not as google hates anything what can manipulate se rankings, like EMD factor for example.

Fuck it in all of its holes.

CjTheFish 03-17-2019 06:26 PM

Sell and reinvest.

k0nr4d 03-18-2019 01:59 AM

Sell it as quickly as possible. From what I remember, that domain has some kind of ancient curse attached to it.

alexistexasass 03-18-2019 02:07 AM

Sell it.
Jabahadak.

Look Chang 03-18-2019 02:22 AM

I'd sit deeply on it ... :stoned

XMaster 03-18-2019 03:12 AM

I will probably turn it into a mainstream site.

Definitely a lesson learned but I also bought a niche dating one that ranked 2nd-3rd for the term. So it's paying off on that purchase.

I'm not terribly upset I bought it because I do like the term and name but you guys were right it didn't help that much. :)

Tjeezers 03-18-2019 08:43 AM

I would keep it as it is, I have pin boards on there and they took a lot of days of work.
