Twitter to start labelling Trump tweets violating their policies & deleting tweets

And they will start deleting Trump tweets that directly threaten individuals.

Twitter to start labelling Trump tweets that violate their policies

A Twitter executive on Wednesday said the company is considering a new feature that will label tweets from politicians, including President Trump, when they violate Twitter rules.

Vijaya Gadde, Twitter's head of legal, policy, and trust and safety, at a Washington Post event on Wednesday said the company might start annotating offensive tweets from public figures with a message about why they remain up.

Twitter has long held that some posts from public figures should remain up because they are "newsworthy," even when they violate Twitter guidelines.

"One of the things we’re working really closely on with our product and engineering folks is, ‘How can we label that?’" Gadde said during the Post event. “How can we put some context around it so people are aware that that content is actually a violation of our rules and it is serving a particular purpose in remaining on the platform?"

Gadde was responding to a question about whether Trump is allowed to say whatever he wants on Twitter.

"When we leave that content on the platform there’s no context around that and it just lives on Twitter and people can see it and they just assume that is the type of content or behavior that’s allowed by our rules," Gadde said.

Twitter's policies dictate that tweets from politicians are important to public debate.

Trump has used his Twitter account to insult and berate his foes, including news organizations, Democrats, actors and more, raising questions from critics about why Twitter does not step in.

Gadde said the newsworthiness clause does not protect all tweets from a public figure.

"An example would be a direct violent threat against an individual that we wouldn't leave on the platform because of the danger it poses to that individual," Gadde said.

“But there are other types of content that we believe are newsworthy or in the public interest that people may want to have a conversation around," she added.

If I was in charge of Twitter I would shut his account down for the good of the entire planet. Trump's twitter account is the only source of his power as president. Kill that account and he'll wither behind a wall of impotence. He won't be able to get his message out his braindead followers. Next president please.

Then Trump would say he's going to investigate Twitter and I would say "go ahead, bitch, we don't have to allow you to use Twitter. Go try your shit on Snapchat or something. We're not aiding and abetting the downfall of the United States".

How do you guys not understand that this censorship of speech in which you applaud at the moment (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube), will come to haunt you and everybody else (across team lines, applicable to all) in the future?

It's not a question of "if", but when.

Sorry but it's ludicrous regardless of what side you're on. Talk about short term thinking.

This is different. The president has weaponized a Twitter account as an instrument of political death for any Republican congress member who want to have a conscience. It's a crisis. The president is a crisis. he would be absolutely nothing without Twitter.

Call it what it really is - effective. Which is the real reason to "cut it out".

Every other politician does half their public work load on Twitter as well.

You are being intellectually dishonest.

It's not censorship. Trump violates their rules on a regular basis, and should be removed off of the platform. However, because he is the President of the United States Twitter is trying to find a way around their own rules.

This is how low the office of the President has sunk. It's so bad that he violates the rules of a social media platform on a regular basis. It's disgusting.

if twitter followed their own rules, 90% of the replies to each trump tweet would have to be deleted.

How do you not understand you are free to say whatever the hell you want, whenever you want to? Go outside. Go march down the street. Say whatever you want. Get it on camera. :winkwink:

You can have all the freedom of speech you want. Twitter is not the USA.

Businesses have been setting their own policies since forever.

Maybe stop crying like Trump just lost the election.

Do you think GFY should start enforcing their rules? Maybe ban hate speech all together?

I thought of that, but I wonder if there is a legal reason why they can't. Maybe they could be sued for it?

Or, maybe the owner of Twitter is a fucking idiot Trump supporter... who knows.

So he has to follow the rules like everyone else. I'm sure Chump and his cultist are against this.

twitter has and exception to its rules for military and government agencies written into them. so they’d have to change the rules for them to even apply to him.
