House votes to hold Barr and Ross in criminal contempt of Congress
 

Thsi is utterly disgusting at every level. This is very, very simple..... If a subpoena is issued, you MUST comply with it. It's stunning that the Department Of Justice seems to think they can ignore them. What they originally did was a criminal act, and then ignoring the subpoenas was also a criminal act.

The Obama administration did this too.

If anyone in our government ignores a subpoena, they should immediately be arrested. When you get a subpoena, you have "X" amount of days to comply, and if you fail to comply for any reason the Capital Police should arrest them.

Actually people fail to comply with subpoenas all the time - that's why there's the remedy of contempt and bench warrants.

The issue in this case is enforcement. Just as there are hundreds of thousands of unenforced bench warrants because the wanted person resides or stays in another jurisdiction, the House apparently lacks the mechanism to enforce a subpoena, or at least has not put it to a definite test. In some US states, such as NY, the lack of ability to enforce a bench warrant is sometimes enough to preclude it.
