Have you ever tried an Escape Room?
Have you ever tried an Escape Room? If not, you should check it out. They are crazy fun.
Last night my friends and I went to an Escape Room in Montreal. Essentially, you end up in room that is a puzzle, and have to discover the clues required to solve the situation within a certain time and escape from the predicament. The one we tried yesterday was elaborate, complicated, very smart, and tons of fun. After a brief intro we are lead into a room and explained the situation. The 4 of us are all secret agents that were supposed to meet a 5th agent, but he is not here. Instead, there is a Bomb with a timer set for 60 minutes that will destroy the city. We can't leave the area quickly enough so our only hope is to figure out how to stop the bomb, based on clues we can find in the room. The room itself looks ordinary. There is a bed, a radio, a TV, closet, pictures on the wall, and oh yes, a BOMB. The host leaves, the countdown timer on the bomb starts (60 minutes), and the game begins. We go through the whole room looking for clues. In the closet there are some clothing, and we find items in the pockets. Under the bed some numbers are written. One of the pictures on the wall has some weird figures. A note thanking someone for a "Great time" last night is found. Everything in the room does something. The closet is not what it seems. The radio must be turned to a specific frequency. Why is the computer showing only a white screen? What do these codes mean? Maps! Switches! Secret doors to hidden rooms! It was an unexpectedly great time. Each of us found different clues and had to work together to stop the bomb (we failed!). If you're looking for something different to do one night, try one out. Completely worth it. |

Not something that interests me at all. See them everywhere though.

Not only does it look fun, but I could soil myself and blame it on the attraction... Sweeet :thumbsup |
There's one in my neighborhood complex but I never see anyone there.
I think they look fun, but I like puzzles. Seems like a novelty though, are you really going to do it more than once? I can't imagine the business model is sustainable. |
Intesrested... but i am the only one interested among the people that i know :/
|
There is no escape . . .
|
The Saw escape room in Las Vegas is very popular.
|

Did one here in LA. Was very difficult and I was confused... luckily the mothers we did it with were much more up to the challenge.

When there was that austin adult gathering we did an escape room my first and only so far.. it was pretty enjoyable.. so I can see why they are popular.
|
Nope :uhoh
|
Seems too much like work for me, why someone wants to pay someone to lock you in and figure a way out, has too much time on their hands. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I did one a couple of years ago with some friends. It was zombie themed and was fun. We got stumped once and had to ask for help, but otherwise we had 60 minutes to get out and did it in about 50.
I love puzzles and games with puzzles in them so it was right up my alley. |

I did maybe half a dozen of these, different themed - Pirates of the Caribbean, Mad Surgeon, Breaking Bad, Yakuza. All great fun, I'd do these more often if I had a group of friends as nerdy as I :D
The city is full of them, and they re-do the plot and theme once it starts going stale. There's even a set of 5 different rooms with different scenarios in the Harry Potter universe (a to-do on my list once I find any adult still interested in Harry Potter, lol) |

I've tried a couple of them. They are indeed a good time.
Some of them are crazy difficult, while others most people can figure out. |
I hadn't heard of it before but it does sound fun smarter better than some other forms of entertainment.
|
the best escape rooms are with live actors imho, especially the horror-themed ones :2 cents:

Word of caution... don't go to one of these if your friends aren't as, um, bright. Yea you end up doing all the work. lol
|
not yet. but i worked on an ad for a local one :)
|
we have plenty of them around us, we did go once with a group of friends bbut usualy go with the kids and they love it.
|
I've gone through a few and enjoyed it every single time - usually end just short of completion but if you go in with the attitude of working as a team and just enjoying the game you'll get the most out of it.

I was in an Escape Marriage. Took me five years to find my way out.
