How to know what to charge?

How do you figure out what to charge when you start selling banner space on your website?

Check, what prices your competitors have. You can find some good overview on advertising networks like juicyads, ero-advertising. .. You name it.

Some people use similarweb tool bar to gauge a quote.

Your first step is changing your profile name on GFY.

For a banner? You have to estimate how many clicks you can send to it.

Even a low traffic site can send a good amount of clicks if the banner is good and the placement is great.

If you know you have quality traffic and can send quality clicks, prove it to whoever is buying the space.

Go to trafficjunkie, exoclick etc and just look at site specific, size specific, placement specific ad placement costs. .05-.10 CPM etc.

Check CPM rates and banner ads with major ad networks. Selling space is not always the best idea. :2 cents:

Here is a free tool to compare: Best Ad Networks

Then use ad mediation to get maximum profit from several networks same time. PM me if you need help with this.:)

It takes more serious analysis to figure it out. You need to know your traffic and conversion ratios.

My opinion is that the best way is to be honest which means to charge by real clicks sent. Then, they need to make money and earn so if you are selling you need to do it just as you are doing for yourself. This means all those small things as having good relevant banners, measuring CTR, placing them on related pages (sites) suitable for advertiser's niche, etc.

Of course, when you do it this way, the amount of traffic delivered will be smaller than just spamming with a banner all around but conversions will be much better and stable. Otherwise, advertisers won't probably come back if they don't have use from the traffic you are sending.

Also, be aware that most of the people are clueless and they will ALWAYS choose the amount of traffic instead of getting quality one in lower volume.

In the end, if you have a quality site and traffic, you don't need to sell. I sell sometimes as a bonus quick money but long term, it is the best option to keep it for yourself, especially if you are seriously working on quality SE traffic.

put some banner up, see how much you make per month,

dillfly2000 08-22-2019 10:49 PM

JA is pretty good for figuring this stuff out. Create an ad, see the impression to unique click ratio. Which country it's coming from. It will auto set a price for you if you choose. If you think it's worth more, up the price a bit.
