is this a money laundering attempt ?

so I have this client.... wants some web design done.. but this.....

Quote:

I have been notified that the check will be mailed to you first thing tomorrow Morning. However, I will need your help with two tasks outside of video production.

Secondly, I will need your help in completing an order for 20 Decimator In-line video flipping devices at --- someone's name --. He won't take a check, and wants payment either through money order mailed to him, or a cash deposit into his bank account. So I will like to include his payment in your check, so that once you receive the check and clear it through your bank, you can help me make a cash deposit into his bank account. I prefer a cash deposit from the available options as I will like to have a proper bank receipt for my books. You won't be involved with shipment as I already have everything sorted out, so you shouldn't worry about that.

CjTheFish 12-02-2019 11:17 AM

Sketchy....

MichaelP 12-02-2019 11:27 AM

yup... Sketchy

I noticed he mentioned " .. so that once you receive the check and clear it through your bank .." But even then, I'd be very cautious about this...

I'd be more like '". Dude, I'll do your video job then you pay me... That's it... :)

adultinnovation 12-02-2019 11:35 AM

said he's working in the Dominican Republic ATM. :1orglaugh

this is probably some drug cartel money laundering shit.. fuck this. :Oh crap

He's got my address too :helpme :Oh crap

He just mentioned this after the normal talk of a job so I already gave my info to mail payment..

he also wanted me to post an ad on craigstlist for him

Quote:

So I will need your help in putting up an ad each for a videographer/editor and a coporate assistant on craigslist. If you are interested in video production, then we can certainly negotiate that as well, and there won't be a need for an ad for that.

CaptainHowdy 12-02-2019 11:38 AM

You're fucked . . .

adultinnovation 12-02-2019 11:44 AM

It's weird because he sent me everything for a legit design job...

then he springs this shit.

I just told him I'm only interested in the design job. :disgust

sadiedazzle 12-02-2019 11:55 AM

You need a Walmart gift card.

Tjeezers 12-02-2019 12:07 PM

I am sure your guts tell you that there are some red flags popping up. But you can take his words for it and not worry about it.

JasonCollins 12-02-2019 12:43 PM

Sounds very shady.. Good luck :thumbsup

This is 100% a fake check scam.

They're hoping you deposit the check and send the money off before the check bounces.

lezinterracial 12-02-2019 01:04 PM

He is gonna have you deposit the check. Which is fraudulent. Then he is gonna have you send cash or deposit cash into another account. The check you deposited will then be reversed.

pimpmaster9000 12-02-2019 02:24 PM

"my client does not accept checks so I want you to be my personal valet and go to the bank instead of my lazy ass and I do not have online banking in 2020"...sounds legit :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

incredibleworkethic 12-02-2019 02:29 PM

If it feels weird, it probably is. :)

weewilly 12-02-2019 03:08 PM

There is a scam where the check is no good but it takes 2 or 3 days for it to bounce. By this time you have already sent the cash out

Yep.

Often they clear without issue.

This is a common craigslist scam. They send a payment that appears to go through, you send them the cash, and then the payment fails and your bank comes after you.

I've lost 15 brain cells attempting to read that gibberish he wrote. As your attorney I advise you to tell him to buzz off. :winkwink:

It is a well known scam.

NatalieK 12-05-2019 03:27 AM

Checks can be cancelled!!!!!

Do not accept a check!!!!

Take payment through the bank, the customer can go to the bank to pay this, another day, but you get the dollar!!!!

I think even months later from a check cashing, the check can be bought as a fraud payment and you will lose the money from your account!!!!

Cyber Fucker 12-05-2019 03:57 AM

Extremely weird. :)
