The Coronavirus

Anyone prepping? As bad as the virus is, the much bigger concern will be shortages and panic. People are already stealing toilet paper in Hong Kong.

I would imagine another week until we know if the SHTF.

HairyChick 02-21-2020 05:05 PM

Every day there are reports of the virus in other countries and regions. New statistics on the infected and dead are widely differing.

freecartoonporn 02-25-2020 12:09 AM

i am going to stock a 2 year worth of ramen, water, wood.

and off-course shotgun for zombies.

lock 02-25-2020 12:40 AM

I will just live through it like every other flu well one can hope. More people are probably spreading other diseases that are worse. We are just looking at these numbers. People have to die of something.

Yes I have a month of rations per person

In a few weeks time the media will have forgotten about it and moved onto something else...

Well, this thing is on the news for a 2 months now, so... there have been a few weeks already

shake 02-26-2020 01:34 AM

More scared about how people might react than the virus itself.

No worries.. Try the VodkaVirus goes down much better. AND if you can get the spicy Tamarind one then it comes out just as spicy!

lezinterracial 02-28-2020 08:10 AM

Been buying some extra canned food lately. I think a month should do it. Avoiding restaurants. I want to buy some more ConAgra stock if it goes below $20 a share.

Klen 02-28-2020 08:35 AM

No changes here, zero food reserves as usual.

Lexi BongaCash 02-28-2020 08:48 AM

I agree, panic is the worst, even in bad times we need to be humans

BaldBastard 02-28-2020 09:15 AM

Americans please do not let your Government dumb you down as to the seriousness of this situation. Other countries that don't have an election year have fully flipped the panic button, because everyone needs to get ready now and have some plans.

Here's a good site for info from Australia, much applicable to the US

https://virologydownunder.com/

and in other news, internet usage is set to increase tenfold as people stay home.

The virus originated in China and Canada has a big population of Chinese--- as does Detroit, MI as we are 20 minutes from the border--- Everyone here is wearing medical masks and freaking out. I am not which I hope I don't regret later.

EddyTheDog 02-28-2020 10:07 PM

They have gone into full panic mode here - I am surprised at the Kiwis, I thought they would be cool about it - As soon as we heard yesterday that there was a case here it has been nuts - They have had to close some supermarkets because it was getting dangerous with all the panic buying...

They are selling medical masks at the gas stations, drug stores, grocery stores--- at the check out. Makes a girl paranoid.

All the panic items like masks/ hand sanatizers etc have been under rationing here from most stores for the past month to stop stock piling and keeping the profiteers out, it wasn't Government instructed just advised, we had panic runs for the bush-fires.

Don't panic over panic buying, suppliers are still supplying and its going to be weeks to months before the tidal wave hits NZ.

I get my stuff delivered - It's $14 and I can pick and choose in my own time and not rushing around the shop forgetting what I want and/or buying shit I don't really want - I don't drive so I often have to get a cab to the shop - That is $20 each way! - I would be mad not to...

I am just going to buy a few extra bits every time - I should probably do it anyway as I can see the biggest fault in the world from my bedroom window! - It's no hassle if I end up with a few extra cans in the cupboard.....

I sold all shares in holdings the 25th and yesterday I purchased shares in a influenza drug-maker(BioCryst Pharmaceuticals).

I went to Reddit and /investing to read and it's like :repuke
Many retail investors are investing heavy into stocks that likely will lose value over the next two or three months. I don't get it? Head in the clouds?

I stocked extra food and tp, things like that. I don't see that the water would be shut off or anything like that so good there. We use a filter.

I hear it´s getting serious world wide, with the UK hearing Boris give an announcement that the corona virus will become mass spread...

and "idiots" are considering moving the world games qualifying to Spain, Spanish health service suggests it has the cleanest and best service, from my understanding, they´re saying there´s no problems here in Spain, but, then want to bring millions over here who could have!!! like wtf???

LOL, I've never used the Spanish health service, but Spanish people in general have the worst hygiene habits in Europe, in my experience.

I always spend a few weeks there in January and it amazes me how early everybody has a cold, despite one of the best climates on Earth. The when I see restaurant workers sneezing into the towels they're wiping down the counters with and such like, it's obvious why.

It actually has one of the best health care systems in the world - Just don't eat the hospital food - It makes the NHS food look ***...

maybe the area, that´s really strange because in Torrevieja, it´s been given the cleanest air and beaches for past many years and no on has a cold, literally, no one...

the hospitals are amazing, all clean and hygienic, with no one waiting around and when a friend caught an infection on his hip, he was assigned a room, you couldn´t go in or out without changing into quarantine clothing and masks, he was out & about 3 days later :thumbsup

here´s some articles...

https://www.thelocal.es/20170519/spa...-best-in-world

https://gritdaily.com/5-countries-wi...-in-the-world/

A huge worldwide award for the hospital here...

"The University Hospital of Torrevieja and the basic area of San Luis and Patricio Pérez, the first centers of the Valencian Community to obtain the Joint Commission International (JCI), the most prestigious sanitary accreditation worldwide"

https://www.torrevieja-salud.com/

cleanest beaches in world...

https://taylorwimpeyspain.com/no-nee...anest-beaches/

here´s something about the games qualifying being held on the costa blanca...

https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-n...irus-concerns/

and as said, so they´re saying it´s clean here, and yet want to bring a load of people over... like wtf :Oh crap :warning :helpme

The media went on ranting for 3 years about Russian collusion

wankawonk 03-02-2020 04:59 AM

My only fear about the virus itself is how it could affect my parents (one of whom has cardiovascular issues) and whether it could put me in a hospital for weeks (which would suck ass and cost $$$)

My fear is panic, businesses closing down, economic crash, etc. It's very possible.

I bought a bunch of canned/dry food, the same shit I normally buy, just 50x as much as usual. If it's needed, I have it. if it's not, it's exactly what I would have bought anyway, and its shelf life is years.
