JMB Software Contact

Heya

Does anyone have any JMB Software Contact? Like, to the original creator ?

Asking as I took the trouble to update to php7 and wanted his permission to add a few features and/or somehow recoup at least a bit if anyone else is interested

PornGrowsOnTrees 03-10-2020 11:14 PM

I wish I did. The software worked good when I used it. Actually I think it was one of the first I have used with adult around 2004 and his link trading script.

Which script are you using from JMB? I did see a link somewhere the TGPX is updated (or was) :)

EddyTheDog 03-10-2020 11:20 PM

Someone has been maintaining it - I think the original guy ended up giving it a GPL licence - So you should be good...

Hinc 03-11-2020 01:34 AM

Yes, some updates were made to make it run - but never to php7 that i could find and support for 5x is running out...so thats what sparked the script kiddie initiative :D

Id have just liked the creators go-ahead to alter his code - especially if adding new features and not just compability

Where can be downloaded last version? I could take a look at code and see can it be converted to php 7 quickly. I remember from before there was also issue on upgrading to php 5.3 version, where php was not allowing anymore to have date used without timezone set and as result script would not work so maybe it's similar scenario here.

I made an upgrade to php7 already - just testing it for any errors ... will throw around the zip once done

That was fast lol. You could make a github repo with it.

Just done TGPX so far :) But will do the others - not particularly complex ... a new github repo is a good idea - ill get them up as soon as theyre tested :)

that will never happen, other than maybe at shared hosts, or if you're overpaying for managed hosting.. half the web is built on 5x. there's still sites running 4.. if you have your own server, you run whatever you want...

Oh for sure - at hosting level I can run whichever version I fancy (and last I heard some 70% were running EOL versions such as 5.2, 5.4, 5.6 and 7.0 - so that particular end of life will be drawn out).

Point is they are End Of Life from the PHP developers side and as such not being developed, security fixed etc.

So for people running shiny new boxes or for instance a nagging WP install on the same domain, anything below 7.2 could be annoying.

Well, i was running version 5.2 for years till recently when i upgraded it to 7.2 finally , and nothing bad happened due it. So no need to rush with upgrade just because someone is telling you to do it

Entirely agreed, the sky isnt falling on that front :) I still have some running 5.6 too - among others some JMB domains

Heh, I remember feeling good about myself for investing in these scripts a long long time ago. They were solid, especially TGPx for me in particular. Was worth it. Mix that with a little Thunderball, I had a nice little recipe going.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Always liked tgpx. Post links to your update when you get time.

Ok - here it is: https://www.adultlist.com/adult-webmasters/

I put it up with instructions for upgrades ... new installs should (i hope) be straightforward, upgrading an install takes a bit of fiddling

I cant find anymore errors, but there might well be some - so please dont break any cashcows

that's pretty cool, but did you get permission to take over dev and distribution of this software? i wouldn't want him to come back from his hiatus and sue you. i would definitely take action if anyone redistributed my software.

No i did not.
I did try to dig him up with no luck.

However, he did release it on an open source license when he left and I have left the source open for others too. So, it should not be a problem - and hell, should he come back hes welcome to take it from where i got to, updating old scripts is economically pure loss :)

Yep, he published all his scripts under GPL so people can do with code whatever they want.

Hinc 03-13-2020 01:04 PM

...and now a new (hopefully) bug free Beta7 is up :D

Yeah - i had the thought too - it was why I tried digging the developer up before starting ... until smarter minds looked into the license for me and gave the green light
