Average minimum price for gas car is 10000$ so i doubt anyone who make electric can beat that, at-least not in this time frame.

Renault launched its first China-built electric vehicle, the Renault K-ZE, at an auto show this month in the south China city of Chengdu.

The subcompact crossover targets urban commuters and is priced from 61,800 yuan ($8,729) to 71,800 yuan after government subsidies, according to Dongfeng-Renault, Renault’s passenger vehicle joint venture with Dongfeng Motor.

The low-cost EV has a range of 271 kilometers (168 miles) and a maximum speed of 105 km per hour (65 mph).

ok so this is just a marketing move to make it look cheap.
I heard that the batteries are the most expensive thing.

it is around 10K euros before subsidies...the barrier to entry for electric vehicles is basically non existent at this moment...considering the fuel savings to a regular driver, that is in the 2K/year range (electric vs petrol) the car pays for itself in 5-6 years if it is 10K...

There has to be a trick.
I doubt that the price of the lithium dropped that much.

If this news is right, the price of the car is may be set according to a forecast of a price drop for lithium batteries.
5 years ago they used to explain that you can't have a cheap electric car, because battery are expensive. Like they have to be in the 20000 or 30000 EUR range.

Yeah but its just for the Chinese market, built by a Chinese company that puts the name Renault on it...

In Europe they might sell it under different brands - like Dacia or Lada.

Skpeaking of which, aren’t Dacia supposed to come out with their electric car in 8-9 months time or so?

Made in China to be sold in China. So no duties and tariffs.

the 20.000$ tesla is coming soon...but the 8000-9000$ renault really puts pressure on the other car makers to step up their game...

They wont be anywhere near as cheap before offered to rest of world.
