Thoughts on Dune?

I liked it. I may love it after a few times. I need to see it on the big screen.
Sardaukar and Harkonnens were great.

I didn't like the soundtrack as much. I found the screaming woman voice irritating.

I wonder if the old Toto soundtrack would have worked?

I did not love the books as a kid. They were okay, but I think I was maybe a little young to understand the political complexity. The 80's Dune movie was dull and bad at the time and really really does not stand the test of time, despite the number of talented people involved. The new Dune, I would prefer as a mini-series, because I am ready for the next episode and this could definitely keep going on the detail. I loved everything from the acting and directing to the scenic design to the costumes to the creative casting. I have a pretty big TV to watch at home, but I am still a little curious about what it looks like in 3D. Then again, I never got around to seeing Avatar in 3D.

brassmonkey 10-25-2021 05:59 PM

it looked battle star gallactish meets the matrix to me. it will never be better than the first.

It was just 'okay' :2 cents:

Believe it or not the Director's Cut of the 1984 Dune is amazing! It is four longs tho lol.

The first book is a stone cold classic. But about halfway through the second one the story got super complex and I lost interest. I hate it when stories encompass thousands of years. The scope becomes too grand and each individual drama in the story seems meaningless when you jump ahead (or back) thousands of years.

Avatar in 3D was cool as shit but being super stoned highly recommended. :pimp

(I will only see this Dune after part two comes out.)

That's really interesting about the director's cut. At 2 and half hours, this Dune movie is part one, so the final length is probably similar. One more reason this should be a mini-series.

I'm with you on the overly epic scale. I know our puny human lives are insignificant, but I don't emotionally connect with literature which reminds me of this.

kuprum 10-25-2021 11:31 PM

a waste of time and expectations

sandman! 10-25-2021 11:42 PM

I liked the movie not the best one I have seen this year but pretty good.

pornlaw 10-26-2021 12:49 AM

You missed out on the best visual orgasm ever.

I have the 3D version on bluray but the 3D isn't near as good at home as it was in the theater.

Jay.BongaCash 10-26-2021 01:24 AM

Amazing sound and video. Truly enjoyed watching it in the cinema.

I saw it right when it opened and 3d was sold out in LA, but I knew my dickhead friends who worked on genre movies but not on that genre movie and James Cameron stuff but not that etc. were going to be spewing salty spoilers, so I had to see it asap. Then, once I'd seen it, I meant to see in 3d later but didn't feel a sense of urgency. I wonder what it costs to rent for an event...

pornmasta 10-26-2021 01:18 PM

it was pretty good

Sly 10-26-2021 02:56 PM

Went to it last night and really enjoyed it. Will probably watch again this weekend on HBO. A lot going on if you don't fully know the story, I only knew bits and pieces of it. Would like another run at it while it's still fresh on my mind.

I will say that it took a little while to get going. The story just seems so deep that it needed that development. Once things kicked off, I was sucked in.

lezinterracial 10-26-2021 08:33 PM

I went to see it again at the theater. Had to see on the big screen.

yea it was a little disappointing to realize a lot of the people complaining watched it for free at home :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

I thought it was good for what it was.. definitely will see the second

Watched about two thirds of it again last night on HBO before bed. I don't typically watch movies a 2nd time but this was worth it. I'll probably pop it on again this weekend in the background.

Rochard 10-27-2021 09:31 AM

I haven't seen it yet.

Movies are getting too long. Isn't this movie two and half hours? That's a bit much.

For anyone that's read the book its merely a summary.

I tried reading the original novel and got about 50%. Eventually I got tired of the constant head-hopping by the author: the way he would tell you with actual words exactly what each character was thinking in every scene. Very weird writing style. Didn't enjoy it at all.

This same director made the new Blade Runner film which was absolute trash...and like 3 hours long.

mikeet 10-30-2021 04:12 AM

Watched it last night and liked it. Personally I think they should have made this one into a series.

TaiGhost 10-31-2021 07:07 AM

We liked it quite a bit. A big screen is crucial to your pleasure receptors. I look forward to part 2 and hoping to seeing the beautiful Zendaya naked. Though I doubt they will go there. :(

I loved the original. Saw it on release. But Sting? pfft...

hamiltonsteele 10-31-2021 07:43 AM

  • The books are much better (Normally the case)
  • The 1984 movie was way better than this remake
  • Looks like Starship Troopers meets Lexx

Scrapper 10-31-2021 12:42 PM

Starts in an hour can't wait.

I loved it. Was awesome.

If you didn't like it, go see another Marvel movie.

Rochard 11-03-2021 10:45 AM

So far I am half way in - I watch movies while I work out at the gym - and it's boring me to tears.

This movie was made to be seen in iMax theaters. Unless you have a state-of-the-art home theater system, you're missing out on a lot of what makes this movie absolutely awesome to see in theaters.

I saw it yesterday in iMax and was blown away. It's amazingly beautiful to watch.
