The Power of the Dog

Anyone seen this crazy movie?

The title alone is a total attention grabber and sort of a mystery in itself.

Very, very slow but so beautifully shot! Complicated but in a weird way. I liked it much more after reading the plot analysis. Not an easy movie to understand. Think I'll watch it again soon. Pretty cool flick actually.

Too slow for me...

Sick actor lineup... Cumberbatch, Plemons, Dunst - I'll give it a shot :thumbsup

Don't expect an action Western.

Yep. Just a little too complicated and unclear imho. I mean, as a relatively intelligent person, sitting through 2 hours of the movie and paying attention, I still had to visit youtube for an 'explanation'...

But it wasn't an explanation that made me go 'Fuck yeah, how could I have missed that? It was right infront of me all along... How fucking clever' etc...

It was more along the lines of, 'Oh... So what I thought happened, DID happen... Hmmm... Well, OK then...'

I just felt that it was trying to be a bit too clever for its own good, and just missed the mark a bit... Glad I watched it, but wont watch again.

Thought about it but I don't want to watch a woman be emotionally abused. No joke.

That is not what the movie is about.

That's pretty much exactly how I felt. Except I might watch it again.

That's what the synopsis states from my quick read.

domineering rancher responds with mocking cruelty when his brother brings home a new wife and her son.

Not for me. Not sure why you don't consider mocking cruelty as emotional abuse. Bet your family is having a great time.

I've read that it is Campion's attempt at dealing with toxic masculinity and its causes. Should be an interesting ride.

That sounds like the actual agenda of the film. So the film is an overindulgence of cinema wallowing in resentment and passive aggressive hate wrapped in the emotional abuse of families.

Great :(

Yeah when did a critic ever get it wrong?

I'm surprised they don't have a strap-on scene or two and a gimp dungeon. :disgust

You have a vivid view of reality. :thumbsup

Campion's "Top of the Lake" mini-series was pretty out there. It was good but she's throwing out some wild ideas. Good I guess, sometimes.

This and Dune were the best movies I've seen in 2021.

I read the Dune books when I was about 12 years old and I saw the David Lynch doom movie I think it was David Lynch.

I'm gonna pass on the new one.

You're gonna pass on the slow cinematic family abuse too

Nancy M00re 12-14-2021 11:21 AM

Yeah , saw it yesterday, the end is so confusing... not too sure about that movie.
I would not actually recommend it although the actors are very good.
