why do people apply for a job and not show up?
Or get a job and start calling out immediately?

I see this quite a bit.

Usually it is in case when they apply for multiple jobs and they already got one or multiple having interview at the same time.

I did it once about 40 years ago, I went and got a job as a cook at at 24 hour please.

I just couldn't do it man I couldn't go pull the shift. I went down to South Texas instead and got a job as a iron worker.

I get that. I worked at an Applebee's for like a month, probably would have been easier on my employer and me if I quit sooner.

If you hire for low wage on Thursday and tell them to start on Monday then they get a better offer on Friday, they no show for you.

The lower the skill needed/pay for the job, the more this happens.

Back when I was claiming 'Benefits' - (Free Money for doing fuck all) - Part of the deal was that I had to apply for at least 3 jobs a week...

But that was all I had to do to fulfill my obligations... 'APPLY'...

There was nothing that said I had to attend an interview or actually get the job... Just 'Apply' and my free money kept coming in the mail...

ah, Maybe that is why. I didn't understand why so many people at work were filling out applications and not showing up.

I will see the same name applying through different temp companies. But they never show.

Since 2015 was owner operator of a snow removal and landscaping company until November 1, this year! Can't find labor @ $30/ hours :1orglaugh !
Before @ $15/ hour, i would have a list of 30 guys within 3 hours of posting my wanted ad.

Liability went through the Roof ( No claim 300% increase ) ..... Many like me Just Closed shop and moved on......
WCB (worker compensation board) 2 years ago was ($1.25/ each $100) paid to workers now ($4.25/ each $100)

Maintenance, parts for equipment have Doubled in rates......... etc... Not interesting anymore......

Why a labor would come to do hard work when now an Amazon delivery guy is making $200 / $300 per day ( average $20 - $30/ hours ) dropping package on doorstep and taking pictures of deliveries.... :1orglaugh The reality is The world is moving in another direction and Hard work is not planned. :1orglaugh

well if that is the case where you are, then that will be it. having to apply for jobs is almost actually like a bit of work, but register with a temp agency (With zero intent of ever taking a job) and have them apply for the jobs on your behalf, is a stroke of genius.:2 cents:
