Anyone here Box?
Any amateur boxers in the house?
For many years I've had this innate desire to box. I hit the bag at home and love dancin around beating the shit out of that thing. Only problem is.... I'm not sure about getting punched in the face lol. I'm 37 which isn't old but I feel like I get injured too often already. More interested in dishing out the punishment. For anyone here who has experienced boxing, do you have to have a high pain threshold to absorb those head shots, or is the adrenaline during the match making it way less painful? Are you getting injured after a heavy bout or are you basically fine after a day or two? Maybe boxing with headgear is a good starting point? |
Headgear don't do anything but most gyms will only let 16 oz in the door you will be ok.

haha good to know. I am using 16oz they are quite padded.

I didn't enjoy getting punched, and I *hate* jumping rope.
Jiu Jitsu is better suited for me. |

I've been boxing for the last 3 + years. I love it. The sport changed my life and my body. Ripped, 6 pack, amazing endurance, more confidence. Boxing is a really fun sport.
I do group classes and private classes 3 - 4 times a week. I never had a real fight, but last year I trained at a competitive level. Ended up injuring tendons in my right arm and left side of my hip. First time in my life I ever suffered a sports injury. Took a few months off to do rehab and strengthen up those tendons. I hated being away from the sport. But I did it and made a comeback, so to speak, only to suffer more punishment. That's how addictive boxing is for me. I try to spar at least once a week. You get used to the punches in the head and body. It's part of the adrenaline rush. Remember to always spar with people you know, people who are more experienced with you, and not with some idiot with something to prove. Always spar with a trainer present. If you get hid hard, you will feel dizzy and dazed for a while afterwards. It will hurt. But it's part of the experience. You'll think I'm crazy, but you actually end up enjoying the punishment. If you box, you have to like suffering. I don't just mean the contact and punches, but the actual training itself is fucking brutal. If you don't enjoy pain, to a certain extent, don't box. It's not for everyone. Headgear is good, but it only protects against scratches and head butts, not actual damage to your brain. I bought Cleto Reyes gloves and headgear. $200 the headgear and another $200 for the gloves. Best investment I've made. If you have any questions, shoot me a PM or ask here. Happy to help. |
I put stuff in boxes all the time.

I used to get destroyed by Dingo as he was a heavy weight with super long reach twice my weight and all my hits just made him wobble not wobbly. We ran wrestling biz but liked to biff. Reality is it always hurts and you end up cranky before and after as nursing yourself.
