Do people still get excited about computer stuff?

The main forum on GFY was originally made up of computer geeks. The original term "adult webmaster" meant you had to take digital photos, build websites, manage software, computers, and servers.... We were all "dirty geeks".

I had to replace my mouse. I am an Alienware kind of guy and I still use the Alienware keyboard and mouse. The new mouse is fantastic. It's both wireless and wired and has all kind of settings that can be changed on the mouse itself.... Not to mention the colors.

Does anyone else get excited about this kind of stuff?

Not AS excited as 'back then' no, but still interested of course :)

I think that 'back then' we were all pushing the limits of what our equipment could do, so say someone getting a video card, enabling them to download video direct from the camera in real time, was a big deal - Likewise a higher resolution monitor or a higher rez digital camera was cool. People would be jealous.

These days though, with tech where it is, not so much. My PC for example I built from scratch in 2019 to be able to cope with future needs. As such, there nothing it cant do for me that I want it to, even 3 years later... So cause it all 'Works' - Less to get excited about.

Its a bit like phones. At first having an iPhone or any smartphone really was cool, and you always wanted 'the next model up' cause it had a better camera or could do more things. Now however, EVERYONE has a phone and the 'innovations' are more like foldable screens etc... Most phones can do most things perfectly well, so less point in getting excited about new ones...

I'm a mouse and keyboard fanatic. I need to have it all tuned for comfort and custom build a lot of my gear.

But I rarely get excited about desktop CPU releases anymore as the benefits have become small between generations. I did get a 3090 card as the benefits for rendering are there.

I have maybe 30 different mice and get all of the new ones to check out.

Same ballpark for me.

My main work computer is an 8-year-old iMac. I do need to get a new one soon because it's giving me some random issues and I'm afraid of it taking a POO at an inopportune time, but I also keep delaying that because spending the money without a noticeable difference in my daily work is kind of a bitter pill to take.

This is exactly me. I used to wait for new video cards and what not and couldn't wait to get them and try them out. Same thing with phones.

I'd sum it up by saying the older we get, the more shitty life gets. It's all a giant load of poo

I still remember standing back in awe of my pc when I purchased my first sound card and games my kid played also had SOUND!

My neighbor thought I was a total nut case because I brought an 850 MEG hard drive, imagine how many hundreds of games you could fit on that.

All my free software used to come from magazines and the free floppies they had, it was a revolution when they started putting CD's in the mags

When I started in adult I'd submit to the Hun, taking extra care to make sure each image was between 20-22k, certainly anything above 25k would be edited and trimmed down.

My first host gave me a whooping 5 meg FREE for $75 per month per domain hosting I had after that it was $8 per meg. BUT because I had an business account with Network solutions, I'd buy a domain and not have to pay for 3 months, no fee if you canceled it so the trick was to get a domain earning more than the 75 hosting.. I don't think I ever canceled a domain. First gallery I submitted to the hun got 16 sales but I couldn't be fucked with all the rules so submitted less than a dozen.. because I was making more out of SEO.

Tell me this isn't the BEST fucking sounding keyboard ever.

I just got a new camera tracking system and motion capture suit. I'm excited as fuck about that.

I cannot fucking believe that currently sober is still on here 🤣

A little but most of the excitement is gone. In the early days I would scour PC Magazine and PC Shopper (thick as a phone book) for all the latest news and deals. I miss it.

Now I just do a little online research and usually end up buying from Costco - currently a pretty decent MSI laptop.

I still like the process of getting to a new item, after researching. Like my vertical mouse is nice and I'm glad I went with Radeon over Nvidia ... but not as all-consuming exciting, partly because the research is so efficient now.

For me, computers and tech have always been a tool to do a job, like a paper and pen. I still like keeping up with new stuff though. Luckily I do still find hot girls naked exciting. However, when it comes to gaming, I'm indifferent, and would rather be doing things in real life than playing a computer game. That said, gaming brings the best tech and I'm still interested in that, but most of it I don't need.
