Random thoughts in light of Xvideos

1. I see so many people moving their Red videos to ad share. This seems very hasty. Sheer is one thing as you are selling your content to people paying for porn. Moving full videos to ad share is simply re-enforcing the old system. The surfer is now learning he can get off for free again. The ad networks know that the people watching free full videos might be paying customers and the tube can pay a % of the ad which I am sure is a hell of a lot less then the % of the premium view. I don’t know because they are very unclear about these numbers. The tubes crushed the pay for porn model. Now the people selling porn are escorting themselves to the gallows, greasing the guillotine and pulling the cord themselves. I assume guillotines need grease, do they? My suggestion, hold off and see what plays out.

2. I would love to be a fly on the wall in their meetings. Have they learned that in this adult fish tank a healthy ecosystem is key to longevity? The fat fish with 80% margins is great, but if the plants are dying and the smaller fish floating their party will come to an abrupt end…again. Are they only in CYA mode or truly understanding and thinking long term.

3. Do these companies keep an outside advisory board of studios? I don’t mean the studios they own or people so in bed with them they are yes people. I mean independent paysites that could give them advice.

4. Faphouse+Sheer+Spicevids <! Xhamster+Xvideos+Pornhub (remember the alligator eats the bigger number) And that equation will never shift again, time to act accordingly.

5. I am not anti-tube. I just want to make great content to sell. I want my financial success to be based on the quality of my product and business management, not others mismanagement. I want to be appreciated by my customers, affiliates and the platforms that distribute it. I want a healthy porn economy. This is ADULT ENTERTAINMENT for fucks sake. Entertain me! It is frustrating to watch these train wrecks in slow motion and the disorganized half-hearted responses. These companies aren’t Microsoft, but their crisis management is pathetic. Billie and I could do better in two hours on GFY. And I mean that.

Being a fellow paysite owner (going on 15 years now wow!) I understand your points. My thoughts on them:

1. I agree. Crypto helps, and XVideos may have European-based alternatives that could absorb some of the changes. Best to wait and see how everything shakes out.

2. Most companies, in and out of adult, worry about their own survival first and the 'ecosystem' last. Google, Uber, Netflix, Microsoft - none of these companies give a flying diddly fuck about anyone but themselves. So I do not even factor in 'the ecosystem'.

3. Most of the still-operating (shooting new content) studios are either small mom & pop shops (or would that be STEPmom & pops?) or big established brands that have either been bought by the tubes or have shared content creation deals. I'm not sure the tubes would even be interested in feedback but I agree they should! Especially when it comes to their Content Partner Programs.

4. Never say never. Dominoes still have to fall, the dust has to settle, markets change, regulations change...let's wait and see.

5. Well I want the same things as you do - but I also want Julia Roberts to wrap her big fat lips around my teeny weeny weiner. So far, no luck. LOL Seriously tho, when it comes to another company's platform it's important to remember that you (or we) do not have control over how they do their business or run their operations.

Conclusion: Always treat the revenue you are making as fleeting, stay forever on your toes, look for additional revenue streams, traffic sources, etc. Don't get lazy and rely on a single website or two for your entire business. That's what models do for fuck's sake. :1orglaugh

All good advice. As far as Tubesites etc. go, they might seem invincible, but remember when it was inconceivable that a mall would go out of business. Now malls are done. Anything is possible.

I make money from pornhub, xvideos & faphouse, nothing wrong with keeping full length vids on the payment side to all these, and edited movies to the free tube, promoting the premium on those free vids...

tubes are obviously going to stay, so be part of them and see an income from your content :thumbsup

The adult industry is significantly worse about protecting their ecosystem. When I was working on my upcoming book, I interviewed a dozen people who have worked in adult and mainstream and without exception they said adult shoots them self more frequently and for less reason than mainstream. You can compete ruthlessly and still make sure you have an arena to compete in. All those companies have dedicated teams to work with the other. I lived in Seattle for a decade, I know the ins and outs.

I mean look at those companies and think how seamlessly they do generally work together. I have Eero routers (Amazon) around my house, I control them seamlessly from my Samsung Android device and my girlfriends iPhone to watch netflix, both devices have Uber. Now think about what it takes as some who makes content to distribute and sell that content in this space, it is anything but seamless. We use elevatedX and NATS, the missed integration opportunities between them, billing, cams, dating and adnetworks is staggering. And that is money left on the table because of disorganization, dishonesty and overprotected fiefdoms. Business is business, but this industry is much worse at it and it costs us.

One of the biggest problems we have in this biz, is that so many are not involved with the creation of the product. They could care less. I also do a lot of work in the film business, and everyone from the grips, to the drivers, to the producers, to the actors, to the studios are very concerned about making good movies. Of course, there are sharks and thieves, but not like this biz where the cost of entry and commitment is about zero and we apparently tolerate theft. Their ain't no such thing as free porn. End of.

That is a great point. I was recently in an Adult Industry Exec meetup that was full of great people on the content side who all care about these issues and are doing their best to act on them. But I did realize that looking around the room that beyond me and my partner there was only one or two other people that had actually spent more than 100 hours on set, either behind or directing a camera. In short that while they were pro content and pro performer they really hadn't been in the shit. :thumbsup

100% agreed. The "issue" then is with the Industry itself and the "product" they (we) are selling. All the companies you mentioned have a vested interest in the mainstream connection and sharing that comes with their setups. Porn is a (guilty) pleasure for many, not a necessity. So the approach is different and much more short-sighted.

Aside from the rare production that catches the mainstream's attention, and despite all the Award shows, one porn video looks very much like any other porn video: people having sex. Of course there are major differences but the mainstream rarely understands or even notices those differences. Therefore it's relatively easy to view Adult as a disposable product with moral strings attached (for many) and thus not to be taken seriously. This leads to justification by pirates and thieves to do whatever they want. Since there is no central authority regulating anything it's the Wild West.

My point is understand the playground you are playing in and watch out for the bullies who will steal your lunch money. LOL

(These are comments about the Adult Industry as a whole, not tubes specifically.)

I have been a professional photographer/videographer long before porn. I don't shoot as much anymore, but I produce a lot. I like to be proud of the product I produce because my name is on it. I am not just selling anything that crosses my desk. I like making high quality product.
