What I dislike about modern video games...

'Crafting'

There, I've said it! I fucking hate the idea that to progress you need to collect things, then find a 'Bench' and turn them into something else...

I'll often install a AAA game, head off into some wonderful world, do a few things, start getting into it, then come across a 'Workbench' & realise its one of 'Those' sorts of games...

Thankfully, plenty of games don't rely on 'crafting' at all - One of the most successful games ever, GTA5 doesn't require crafting... Likewise 'A Plague Tale' relied on minimal crafting, and I could deal with that, but the 'Rick & Morty' style game 'High on Life' didn't use it at all, ^ I fucking LOVED that!

Such a shame that after all the fallout hype, I installed Fallout 76, jogged into the wasteland, and came across a bench almost immediately, with text encouraging me to 'Craft'...

Uninstalled it straight away...

Even in VR, 'The Walking Dead - Saints n Sinners' - Great graphics, atmosphere, jump scares, etc... Oh look! 'Crafting'... Nahh... NEXT!

Name me some other games WITHOUT 'Crafting' or convince me I've got it wrong, and how 'Crafting' is the best thing since sliced bread...

Yeah I hate that as well, luckily in the latest Far Cry it wasnt mandatory.. I guess you can craft pretty useful and strong weapons but I turn it on to shoot around..

I don't care for in-game puzzles.

Sometimes they are just distracting, and other times they are just dumb. In GTA5 Online mode when there is some heist to do, you have to stop and crack the code to open a bank vault or some shit like that. The code is always way to easy to be realistic, and it just feels shoe-horned in because no one at Rockstar had any better ideas that day...

However this one is super interesting

Has anyone solved it?

Crafting is annoying for sure. My biggest pet peeve was highlighted in an Ars Technica article from 15 years ago.

We talking Far Cry 5 or 6? Which has the LEAST crafting?

Far Cry 1 will always be the GOAT!

Original Crysis is also awesome!

Throwing dynamite at the powder gangers and stacking piles of dismembered corpses is also fun, too...

You better ask this in a gaming forum.
I personally have seen so many games on Twitch and crafting is just part of RPG-like games.

I would suggest you the new Dragonīs Dogma 2, but you have to do crafting as well.

The Fallout series seem to offer a lot, strange you even donīt want to craft in Fallout.
What about Elden Ring?

Maybe some platformer like Undermine is a game for you.
Somehow I feel you would have fun playing that.
Or Noita, which can be super challenging.

And no, thereīs no pooping in these games :1orglaugh

Yesterday they released a new Gameboy emulator you can sideload via alternative app store.

Maybe you want to play Nintendo games on your phone?
Old shit like Mystic Quest!?

Huggles 04-19-2024 10:15 AM

You can poop in PixArk.

I've got this already - Every Gameboy game ever released is on it, along with all the other consoles as well...

Full color screen - Even got a full set of MAME on there - It even plays Arcade Perfect full on Dragons Lair! :thumbsup

I like crafting in some games.

In Fallout IV I had automated factories and robots running everything. Took a lot of crafting to build all that but I was really sick at the time and had plenty of free time on my hands.

No crafting in Zelda BotW or TotK :thumbsup

Peak RPG.

Chrono Trigger is the best RPG, tho..
I like RPGs that instead of crafting, have that one string of items that you have to trade up to get the secret item/event in the end.
Crafting can be fun, too, but then I eventually just cheat and add x-amount of items needed to craft whatever I need...

I don't mind cooking and fusing weapons in Totk, but building the vehicles and stuff is pretty tiresome.. but it's an amazing game :thumbsup

Change the 'N' to a 'P' and turn the 'b' the other way so it looks like this: 'd' & you'd be 100% correct :thumbsup

Just a developer trick to make the game seem longer

Mr Pheer 04-20-2024 12:58 PM

The entire premise of Minecraft is based on crafting, it's extremely popular even as basic as it is.

I actually forgot about all of this when I made the post :Oh crap

Moving materials around with the ultrahand can get tedious for sure.

I was probably meant to receive it earlier, but that's the trade-off with a game as open as this I guess.
