it should be possible to survive exclusively on protein shakes plus vitamins, right?

talking about mass gainer shakes, the over 1000 kcal per serving ones. so you get your protein, carbohydrates, minimum fat plus you take vitamin tablets.

that is all a man needs nutrition wise, correct?

money biz 01-04-2025 09:15 AM

Yes as long as you get minerals and vitamin c. So seasalt and limes you will be good.

I would analyse first the risk to follow an inaccurate layman answer, if the answer matters.

I would at least read the recommendations of the manufacturer of these drinks (some mixtures claim to be food and not just supplements) if not ask a dietitian with a speciality in fitness/busy men.
Likely the manufacturers are going to say that the supplements have to be a part of a balanced diet (they are likely not evaluated to be the unique source of food).

Yes, i am an annoying guy 🙄

Ps: fibers matter too.
Some excess of vitamins (A, E, D especially) can be harmful.

Also the amount that you drink should match you calories intake you need.
Like 2 bottles could maybe not be enough (2000 calories) but 3, too much (3000 calories).

When you say minimum fat, how much are we talking? You need fat.

CyberHustler 01-04-2025 11:15 AM

Swap the protein powder for a proper high protein meal replacement powder like Huel Black and you get to be healthy as shit for cheap and called bad names by angry diabetus people who have to survive on testosterone shots and metamucil.

Mindi 01-04-2025 11:29 AM

living on ultra processed garbage is not going to go well for you

cerulean 01-04-2025 11:58 AM

Has anyone here read The Martian? Good book with a relevant discussion on nutrition.

Protein poisoning is when the body takes in too much protein with not enough fat and carbohydrate for a long period of time.

I heard the opposite: that our protein intakes are not sufficient

Generally speaking, yes. The "rabbit poisoning" myth has been shown to be somewhat apocryphal and difficult to replicate in a modern context. Even rabbits nowadays have sufficient fat to prevent protein toxicity.

0.8g per lb will have many people feeling quite good, especially if you add veggies (fiber) to the mix, and a decent "just in case" multivitamin.

We're omnivorous, a little bit of everything goes a long way . . .

Helix 01-04-2025 03:29 PM

You will need fiber.

You are seeking out the worst solutions to your problems... protein shakes are like the dating apps of nutrition.

Here's a diet for you that will work:

Breakfast:
4-6 eggs, scrambled, with cheese
1 avocado
500 ml water
coffee
Great start to the day, add a glass of pomegranite juice if you're hungover

Lunch:
Two roast chicken breasts
Broccoli crowns
Mini corn
Water chestnut
Soy sauce
Lightly fried in olive oil
Served in a bowl with cold bean sprouts on top and a drizzle of hot sauce
Fucking delicious

Dinner:
Angus steak
Mushrooms
Tzatziki
Salad with walnuts, feta cheese, dried cranberry and italian dressing

Dessert:
vodka while shitposting on GFY
Popcorn with butter if you really need a late night snack

Yum yum, easy peasy and healthy too.

XXXtrailers 01-05-2025 03:29 AM

No it's not
Food contains a lot of components that we still don't understand fully
In exact proportions
You would not replicate this intentionaly

So whole food diet is the best option

Do you have Wal-Mart delivery available to you?

If so, you can order all of the healthy food you need right to your doorstep.

Publisher Bucks 01-05-2025 03:09 PM

No, it’s not just about macro nutrients, micronutrients, vitamins, minerals fats, proteins, trace elements, chemicals all have to be balanced so your body functions, to create other elements and chemicals needed for cellular growth, maintenance and the likes… Biohackers have been trying to figure out the ‘magic’ solution for this exact thing for years… They’re still nowhere near close.

shimmy2 01-05-2025 10:57 PM

i've done it before (all protein and bcca diet with no real food only vitamins) for years. its a single mans diet for lazy folks, you will get ripped and definition but not healthy for long term health. if i had some shoots or some big races scheduled i would do this routing for about a month prior, then after shoots/races i would start eating real food again

There is no such thing as "1000 kcal per serving" gainers, its just marketing. Most gainers consist of mainly carbs and some protein...so 4g of kcal for 1g of powder. If you take 100g of powder, you get 400 calories. The only thing they do is they change the serving size, to display a bigger number on the package...but imagine if supermarkets did the same...if they claimed our chicken has 1000 calories per portion, while the others have 500 calories per portion...and then you would read the small print saying that their portion is simply twice as big. :1orglaugh
