Converting DVD to web movies (mpg, wmv?)

I have several dvds I want to encode for the web. Now we have tried first to rip them and then chop the complete movie into scenes and encode those into windows media files.. But sofar that didn't worked to well. We had one dvd with missing frames for example

Does anyone have good experiences with software? And which was that or do you have any other recommendations.
And any ideas on good quality screencaps ??

thanks for your help in advance,
Pierre

Took us 2 weeks of reading google searching and experimenting to get everything working perfectly. Not to mention all the different softwares we use and codecs.

Best of luck :)

DVD ripping in 7 easy steps,

1. Make sure you have the necessary codecs installed (e.g, xvid codec)
2. Rip with Smart Ripper
3. Convert files with DVD2AVI
4. Make fake AVI file with VFAPI
5. Open fake AVI file and encode/edit (resize, etc) video with VirtualDub
6. Encode sound with Headac3he
7. Combine output from 5 and 6 with Nandub

Once that's done (let's say the output is 800MB), you can then convert to other formats.

Smartripper then FlaskMpeg then convert to format of choice. The only thing you have to figure out is which VOB files to rip in Smartripper. Once you understand that you will have an easy time. Expect to take one full day to get the process mastered.

The easiest and quickest way is to buy a decent TV capture card.
Wire your DVD player into your card and use Windows Media encoder to capture your footage. I used to use the long route of shit loads of programs but just using WME gives me results just as good, quicker and a lot less fucking about. Use ASFTools to split files

the prog u want is called 'maxima dvd pro'

this will rip the dvd to your HD in one step.

3 Easy steps:

1. rip the dvd to your hd
2. rename vob to mpeg
3. use procoder to transcode your mpeg2 file to other formats.
