Gordian Knot contains all the smaller programs you need to do the whole job ... (Smart Ripper, DVD2AVI, ...)

If you want to encode to mpg, i would go smartripper > dvd2avi > tmpegenc ...

not sure what you'd need smartripper for. I guess he doesn't need chapter info etc just the pure movies

open one or all vob files of the DVD in dvd2avi and save them as blabla project. Afterwards, load the project in tmpgenc and convert to mpg. Very easy

Hmm, never thought of that honestly ... im just used to using SR to grab the VOB's ... never even thought of taking them right off the dvd ... time to play :)

I just use dvd ripper 1.9 but it takes 5 hours to rip a single dvd.
