Upgrading from 1-2 gigs of ram
Getting another monitor next week (too cold to go outside this week in toronto) and thought I might upgrade my comp to 2 gigs of ram.
Im running xp and mostly work with photoshop, dreamweaver and have a few other little things open. The computer will be running dual monitors. Will the gig of ram help at all? |
Hardly

Its cheap so you can think what the hell, i'll buy it anyway but dont expect too much improvements. Actually i think you will not notice anything.

You'll only notice a difference if you usually push your system farther than what your ram will allow .
one 3d program I use shows you the amount of ram you are using , and it gets pretty wild sometimes . So I upgraded and its buch better in THAT program . only cause it was using more ram than I had . |
Depends on what kind of RAM you're using.
|
yea depends what kind of ram, and the specs of it. Oh and try to get idenetial ones
|
i never see XP / windows 2000 using all the ram, I mean I have a gig of ram it uses 400mb and it demands like a 1 gig swap file, shouldn't it be using the RAM instead of swapping?!
|
i only have 768 of SD ram, it was obviuosly a huge increase for me because i upgraded from 256. some stuff does run better, but if you are just running one regular (ie not demanding) program there is no difference
|
seems more cpu is needed more than ram once you are over 1 gig of memory
