hostname resolving issues on my freebsd machine

For example from PHP (Gethostbyaddr) or sending
mail from the machine is lagged when its trying
to resolve certain hostnames from ip addresses.

Basicly: if i resolve lets say 40 random IP addresses
35 go quick (within a millisecond) and 5 take
10 seconds to resolve (slowing down the whole process
of mail, stats, etc).

What can i do about it? :helpme

unfortunately not much. its the nature of named.

depending on teh programming though you may want to try different name servers. you may even want to switch your name server to another one.

Maybe you can install bind on that server then set the resolv.conf to point to localhost.

Most likely that will solve your problem.

but wouldnt that just move the bottleneck to bind
trying to resolve uncached hostnames?
