Is Leased Content becoming a thing of the Past ?

Do you think leased content is becoming a thing of the past ? It seems to me that more and more companies prefer to shoot or buy their own content and stream it themselves since bandwidth has become cheaper. It also appears that the companies that sell their content as opposed to leasing it are making more money at the end of the day. Would you agree ?

DR_PHIL 04-06-2004 05:23 PM

yep even newer players seem to be

WWC-Moe B. 04-06-2004 05:50 PM

Agree all the way:thumbsup

Leased content does not do any good to your business... you are paying for something that brings no value to your business and all the designs are different so any page you go is different... does not make your site unique.

Also the money you spend on leased content adds 0 value to your business...

If you own your content at the end of the year whatever amount you have paid adds value... if you payed 4k per month, in one year it is $48,000 you have spent and if you wanted to sell your website you will ask for the price based on the sales plus the value of the content you have paid for...

Thanks!

Leased content *might* be good to fill out an already quality site but if you are relying on it to hold your members attention you're heading in the wrong direction.

When you say leased content are you talking about plugins? If so, then it's not in the past, but quickly going down the drain anyway. It's like everything, business evolve, new technologies replace the known ways of managing your sites, add to that the concomitance of global echonomy and politics and its influence in labor costs, cost/benefit equations...
In short, TODAY is better to have your own content, specially made with your site in mind, using branding, exclusivity and creativity as ways of improve your business as instead of having the plugins everyhahahaha has, which, btw, have low quality image, are slow and boring. It could add up to some sites with loads of content, just to make it looks like they've shitloads of content, but it's nothing that will retain members or make'em sign

Just my 2 pesos

Yes, leased content like videos etc > no one wants to build a site on this today..

But what is selling and members like it > live content! I have many customers on my live cams and live plugins. You cant open your own studio with 50 girls and 24/7 coverage. Or your own spy cams (maybe you can install them at your home, hheh).

But you can lease a hardcore show cam with chat for 50,- ?/$ in my content shop, and I think you will get something for your money.

So, leased videos are doing it no more, but live content is still keeping the members on your site.:thumbsup

i sure hope it becomes a thing of the past - it turned a lot of web surfers from subscribing because of being burned by all of the same content ;)

that and lack of updates....there are so many feeds providers that haven't updated in over a year and some even lnger...

Nydahl 04-07-2004 04:33 PM

I think the future belongs to custom exclusive content. At least you should have some exclusive for tour pages or design at all
:2 cents:

Royal Cash 04-07-2004 04:40 PM

yeap, of course it is

it's good only to add some value to your members area if your site is 1 model site for example..

future is for exclusive content

If you spend $4000 per month on leased feeds you'll finish the year with $4000 worth of content expenses in December. If you spend the same $4000 per month on content, you'll finish the year with $48,000 worth of content assets

Anyway I agree. Thats one of the reasons we got out of the feeds business (previously we ran http://www.livedesires.com for 5 years) and started supporting content sales via http://www.imageauction.com, including sales with resale rights as Moe is pushing.

Is Leased Content becoming a thing of the Past ?

No.

However most leased content is well...
Just not done correctly to make it seriously worth while.

There is alot of room to be broken in with Content feeds.
I think that can add definate value to a site. However numbers accross the board prove that leased content add's to a sites potential for retention.

Numbers don't lie.

Rictor 04-07-2004 10:21 PM

I've been very public on my views that leased content is worthless.

jayeff 04-07-2004 11:31 PM

Some very dubious accounting in the Rick Latona quote, but I agree with the majority that leased content (with the exception of live feeds) is largely worthless.

But isn't anyone surprised at the failure of the leased content providers to make the most of their market? Content and bandwidth are at rock bottom prices and as to branding, with frames and style sheets, pretty much anything is possible.

Yet I can look at the sites of people I leased from 3 and 4 years ago and there is the exact same content still, together with the claim "we update monthly". Yeh right...

WWC 04-07-2004 11:32 PM

yes, at least we have been shooting our own exclusive content such as DirtyRoadTrips.com, MilfExplorer.com, ATMbabes.com and many others .....or we just buy the content from www.WorldWideContent.com and stream ourselves
