A cheap method of advertising on GFY?

Posting competitions have become quite the advertising tool on GFY in recent months, so it was only a matter of time before somebody (intentionally or unintentionally, who knows...) exploited this mean of advertising...

I'm writing this in relation to the cams.com competition thread contest where Irish Pimp posted 49 times in a row on his own competition linky of consec posts ultimately leading to it getting shutdown by Lensman.

Of course, the competition stated that if the thread was closed, the competition was null. Now it would appear that cams.com got over two weeks of advertising, and then basically nullified their own contest. i know the lars group are stand up guys and paying out the prizes isnt exaclty an issue to such a program but at the same time this issue needs to be discussed.

Rui 02-12-2005 08:24 AM

Indeed, shitty thing to do to say the least...

pradaboy 02-12-2005 08:29 AM

hmmm that's awkward... Lars is always a standup guy

Dalai lama 02-12-2005 08:33 AM

Lars is a good guy.

StuartD 02-12-2005 08:34 AM

It was closed after steen2 made a ton of consecutive posts.... so he's probably just as much to blame as Irish Pimp.

That being said, I don't think anyone "intentionally" posted in it with the intention of getting the thing closed, except for Lensman himself.

Satisfaction 02-12-2005 08:38 AM

I agree 110%.... everyone knows lars is a stand up guy :)

I'm sure that he will pull through on this, I just feel that the issue needs to be addressed for the future. Perhaps a better solution would be for lens to let such contest finish, but forbid the sponsor from holding any more.

Furious_Male 02-12-2005 08:40 AM

Lars and Sean had a little inside joke going about who would post more between the two of them. It looks like Sean was trying to stay ahead of Lars. I don't think they were aware that posting several times in a row was against GFY rules.

Lensman 02-12-2005 08:41 AM

These contests need to prohibit consecutive posts and posters that collude (ie coordinate posts) will be booted from here.

no if you look carefully, beyond the last page where yes, steen made 8 'consecutive' posts or so.. irsih pimp had 1 and half pages of him posting consecutively..

Wizzo 02-12-2005 08:42 AM

A simple solution is just allowing those with top banners to host contests... :pimp

I think it was the gibberish posts on the last page that may have got it closed, I too do believe that it wasn't done intentionally.
He just wanted to win that mini mac.

It's good to have this new rule for contests.

I'm not sure how that's advertising anything other than the people he's ambushing.

Steen2 02-12-2005 03:25 PM

My apologies, obviously I didn't mean to cause harm, and did not expect that.

Hi Lens. Suggestion: Pls make a sticky so that those planning such contests know the rules.

Alex 02-12-2005 04:40 PM

Better yet, contest starters cant compete in their own threads.

pornstar2pac 02-12-2005 04:42 PM

there goes my, "5,000th post in this thread gets a free fleshlight" contest i was planning

YES contests are a good thing for all concerned, must be some definite ground rules for it so it will not be abused :2 cents:

Pete 02-12-2005 05:01 PM

It only takes one loser to fuck it up for everyone. Hopefully Lens keeps his cool.

That paid top banner for cams.com might help...

Thank god we have you all to 'out' a long time PAID advertiser for posting consecutively too many times in their own contest thread.

I know I'll sleep better tonight...

:helpme

pornstar2pac 02-12-2005 05:16 PM

how come no one whines when Lensman put's his threads on top?

FunForOne 02-12-2005 05:19 PM

maybe they need to deposit the prize money in an escro account before the competition. If its closed, the money paid to the winners and something with the rest....

i dont think he was competing for his own prize but just purely posting to beat lars in a personal contest they made.

spunkmaster 02-13-2005 12:57 AM

If Lars has anything to do with it he'll make it right :)

i got to have a look dude :)

pornpf69 02-15-2005 01:07 PM

making some 3 consecutive posts is not a really bad thing...as sometimes the thread is full of questions and you answer all of them in a row...but when you are posting just for posting this is not a really nice thing to be done...

Sean 02-15-2005 03:03 PM

look guys, i feel bad about that thread getting closed.
lars and i were having a little battle to see who would
be posting more in that thread, and i took it too far and
i think that i was the reason the thread got closed.
there were others that had consecutive posts, and there
were others that posted 50 times in a row in that
thread, but i was the last one that did so. lesson learned,
and i wont hammer on a contest thread that we start.

we are just waiting a few more days to have it cool off
a bit, and we will have a new contest with rules in it that
curb that type of posting. in that contest, im going to make
the last one right.
