Just used Epassporte to buy a Dell monitor...

Damn... I just used my epassporte to buy a Dell monitor. They send me an email to contact their credit card services. I call them and they want to know all kinds of shit including what country the card comes from. I flip it over and it comes from some Island as far as I can tell and I spell it out to the outsourced employee who is having a hard time speaking English. He tells me I am wrong and we go to his supervisor who does speak English but I can tell he is definately outsourced too.

After a 20 minute conversation the order is OK. Turns out the whole hoopla is over the fact that the card is based out of an Island and I am based out of a continent. I hope more Island cards become the norm so that we are not targeted each and everytime I use Epassporte to pay for something of substantial value.

Every credit card processor has its own risk parameters and set of rules they use to determine if a credit request should be honored. Typically, an approval or denial is based on a fairly standard set of rules. But some merchants and/or processors take their scrubbing a bit further.

The kind of filter which caused this sale to be flagged relates to the fact that your mailing or billing address did not match the country of origin for the Visa card used for the purchase. That is fairly strict rule and not very common, but some processors will flag the transaction to request some sort of verification and a few will just deny the sale. It depends on the level of risk involved and how stringent the processor is.

Just know that credit card authorizations are not standardized. That is why you may get different results between IPSP's. It is a fact that these types of issues exist, but thankfully they aren't the norm.

I made a donation to Greenpeace today with my Epassporte virtual card, I wonder if it will be accepted.

I think they drop automatically after 30 days or so

ePassporte didn't tie your money up. The merchant from whom you were attempting to make a purchase with did. It should only take one FAX and 24 hours to remove the pending authorization if the documentation is complete and accurate. That being said, I'd love to hear more about this if you wish to contact me directly. Rand @ ePassporte.com.

And HTTP is right. ePassporte has the abiltiy to automatically remove the pending charges after 30 days if the auth is not setteled.

Epassporte has been doing great for me. When are you going public? I want in the IPO ;)
