hey workout gurus..gotta a question

whats the best way to lose weight by excercise?? i've been working out for 2 months, 3-5 times a week of 30-45 mins of cardio (around 500 calories burned during each cardio session) then 30 mins of (light) weight lifting, just to give my arms a defination, nothing big.

and i've only lost like 2 pds LOL ummm.....wtf? :Oh crap :helpme :(

im seeing some results in my legs, hips, arms, ass, but my stomach & weight is still the same, minus a pound or two.

I changed my diet (3 months ago) to eating healthy foods like chicken & alot of veggies, alot of fruits, low-card shit....etc etc

am i doing something wrong?? or does it just take a while for results to show up? :Oh crap

maybe your not doing the right types of cardio? Lately ive been doing fast stair steps since they work the upper legs, lower abs, and i think whats my best feature my ass. Maybe you should try to do more running or other types of high intensity cardio workouts

ya, maybe i should chill on the weights and just focus on the cardio & see what happens with that.

im only taking in around 1500 calories/day and im burning off 500 of that everytime i go to the gym...just thought i would have seen results by now.

thats what i do!!!!!! lol :) i do that cuz i have a bad knee (from when i played girls basketball in high school) so i cant run on a treadmill, so i "run" on that ski machine thing, which is basically running without the hard impact on my knees.

my ass is looking fabulous :thumbsup

lol yea they work great. If you've got problems with your knees look into swimming. It works out pretty much every part of your body and isn't high impact.

Have you lost any inchs? I used to weigh 450lbs, my first 3 months (doing roughly the same thing that you are doing) I actually gained 5 lbs. However i lost nearly 4 inchs from my waist. After that, I think it was because my body was finally back into balance, the weight just started to shed off. its been about one and a half years, and i am now down to 280lbs. Just keep at it, and if your having issues over the next month, pick up a personal trainer once per week, just to give you some good exercise tips. Everybody is different, and personal trainers are great because they can target your exercises to help you loose the weight much cleaner and faster.

Also, as to your diet, just cut out sodium and sugars. Sugar goes directly to fat, and sodium messes with your sodium potassium pump that makes ATP (the bodies energy source) Finally, drink A LOT OF WATER, if you want to shed the weight, take your weight divide it by 2, and thats the number of ounces you should drink in a day.

Hope this helps

xxxdesign-net 05-06-2005 11:20 PM

well.. you know what.. most "overweight" people will say they barely eat.. but when you really look at it.. they eat alot of junk between meals, they eat alot of pasta... cookies, ice cream, muffins, pizza, etc...

moneyman3203 05-06-2005 11:20 PM

yea dont lift weights, do alot of sit ups for yer tummy and run you'll burn calroies faster than u think ;x

DateDoc 05-06-2005 11:22 PM

An hour on the eliptical machine. Take a yoga class too as it will relieve stress and stressed out ppl have a hard time losing weight. Hit the steam room or sauna regularly Reduce the size of your 3 daily meals but eat 5 meals a day. When you feel hungry and before every meal drink a glass of water. Eliminate caffeine from your diet. Don't drink carbonated beverages (even diet sodas and sparkling water). Hope that helps. :)

moneyman3203 05-06-2005 11:23 PM

450 god damn! lol ;x

No, you should lift weights, What makes you loose weight, is the process of your muscles rebuilding from a good workout. Incase you didnt know, when you work out, you actually "rip" your muscules. By working the larger muscle groups, it will take longer for them to heal, thus burning more Calories. Just be sure to use some sort of protein to help the healing process.

heh, yeah i get that a lot :)

thewebgarage 05-06-2005 11:26 PM

keep in mind muscle wreighs a lot more than fat. it sounds like your doing the right thing. give it 6 weeks. then increase your workouts to 5 days week. you might want to lift weights for your entire body. for women legs especially. High reps low weight. 2 sets of 20 reps if you can swing it. Keep the weight low.

Diet is important also. 6 servings of fruits and vegis daily. one each per meal. If you cut out sugar, bread and pasta in addition to the above you'll start to lose weight. I'm sure your percentage of body fat is dropping. Your off to a great start.

moneyman3203 05-06-2005 11:28 PM

its cool bro...u could prolly pick up mofos and jus throw em! lol u would be a tight ass bodyguard! shitt!!

Did you happen to do a BMI calculation before you started your workouts? If not have the people at the gym do one for you. Try to track your progress that way!

LoL, yeah, i started to study Aikido as well, so that helped a lot. Its nice to be able to move that amount of weight around to use it aginst your opponent!

MGPspots 05-06-2005 11:31 PM

TIP - Exercise first thing in the morning (before food but after a black coffee). Your blood suger is very low and u will burn fat much faster

start doing HIIT. High intesity interval training. Works fucking wonders. a buddy of mine lost 30 pounds in 8 weeks doing and I'm gunna do it starting monday :thumbsup

this is how it works:

mon wed fri routine

Do 4 times

30 sec Sprint or High resistance cycle/elliptical
30 sec Jog/walk or LOW resistance cycle/elliptical

After 2 days at 4 cycles increase 1 cycle and keep adding 1 cycle every 2 workout days until you're up to 15 cycles then take a week or two off and start over again at 4 cycles if you want to.

once you get up to 15 cycles you'll be at 8 weeks or so and will have lost a good amount of fat if you're eating right too.

If you do any kind of weights, DO THEM FIRST and you'll be burning pure fat during your cardio. Your body will burn the carbs available to it FIRST then the fat stores. So, lifting first for 20-30 mins will deplete your carbs and thus forcing your body to burn fat to fuel your body while you bust ass on HIITs

Also, fruits are BAD because they contain Fructose and will release insulin into your blood stream causing the storage of fat/carbs into your hips/thighs/where ever

LOL ya, i've lost a few inches from my hips and waist, thats VERY noticable, but im still the exact same weight i was when i started working out 2 months ago, so it looks like this is normal for right now, which is good!

i damn near cried when i got on the scale for the first time in weeks, i thought maybe i lost 10 pds cuz i saw the inches came off of my body, but turns out, i only lost like a pound lol

i got SO depressed over that. i felt like i've re-arranged my whole life for months, and been working really hard to getting my health back on track, and after all that, i lost 1 pd, ya....i was about to cry :Oh crap

and i've been doing light-weights to gain a LITTLE muscle, cuz muscle burns calories (like you said). and i know my metabolism has jumped up alot cuz i get hungry like every hour now.

thanks for the help! :thumbsup

This is true, but she's a girl.
So easy with the heavy weights. When first starting to work out you'll notice weight gain when on the scale. Stay away from the scale and focus on the result you see in the mirror. Muscles weigh more than fat too and even if you're not lifting weights you're still gaining muscles for example in your legs and thighs...and your ass (you said it looked good). Good luck with it...but don't be so focused on the scale, look at yourself and see if you look good, numbers don't tell you that.

if you look like you've lost weight but still weight the same, you've lost fat and gained muscle.

What I suggest is to (like many have said) do high reps low weight. You'll create lean muscle which burns lots of calories. FYI an average lifting session burns about the same number of calories that a meduim intensity cardio workout does.

HIT is a great way to lose weight. I have been recommending a variation of it to people since 1990. Good stuff!

tranza 05-06-2005 11:59 PM

You must have lost some fat and gained some muscles... That's why you only lost 2 pounds of weight....

good thread, i'll be working out soon and this gives me lots of idea

Do your cardio first thing in the morning before you've had anything to eat. It's very difficult, but since you've used all the calories from food intake while you were sleeping, A.M. exercise depletes your fat stores.

Don't stop with the weights either. Women get so freaked out that they're going to develop bulky body-builder figures & it just doesn't happen. Those women put in years at the gym, take supplements, eat very strict diets plus have incredible genes. It doesn't happen by accident!

Women who just do cardio end up smaller, but soft, flabby, jiggly. If you can do your cardio in the A.M. & return to the gym later in the evening for a weight training session & another short session of cardio, you'll see the results the quickest.

you are losing fat and gaining muscle. That's normal :)

keep it up and keep working out with the weights. Best way to lose FAT. don't try to lose weight :)
