You don't want to piss people off in countries where they will not lose sleep over killing you. Other than that, it's pretty unsafe if you act like an idiot (typical of Americans abroad). Safe if you don't. :2 cents: |

So you think the hoe game is more dangerous there? |
umm
1:09 p.m. June 2, 2005 RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil ? State legislators have approved the construction of 6.6-foot high walls along some main roads in crime-ridden Rio de Janeiro to protect motorists from the cross-fire of gangster shoot-outs. Known for its sunny beaches, lush jungle-covered mountains and hedonistic Carnival bash, Rio is also infamous for crime. The city has one of the highest murder rates in the world. |
watch out for the Gracie family, they will kick your ass :thumbsup
|
Dude if you piss people off I would try somewhere else...

GREEAAAAAT. How about Sao Paulo? |
The company I used to work for would send a bodyguard with their employees who were traveling to Brazil.
I also heard they'll cut your finger off just to get your ring. |
Brazil is about as safe as walking through south central LA with a "I hate niggas" sign ala Die Hard.
|
Sao Paulo is the third biggest city in the world, after Tokyo and Mexico City.
17 million inhabitants, 4 million automobiles and 10,000 miles of streets, make Sao Paulo one of the most congested cities in the world. It has one of the worst crime rates in the world with 1500 murders last year, compared to New York's 671. The good news is with 17 million people your odds of being killed are lower, but the bad news is if you steal some ho's... their pimp just might be a cop or the police chief. Been several stories lately, about people kidnapping the mothers of brazilian soccer players and holding them for ransom, about a shooting spree that killed a bunch of people and some say it was the police, retaliating for something. Two of my good friends, Nikkyblond and Renato were down there recently and had a blast tho. I've been invited and will get there one of the trips. |
ask Kman :1orglaugh

stay close to your major hotels and try to walk with groups of people. DO NOT WALK alone after dark. DO NOT wear visible jewely, carry a camera, or cellphone. the favella kids coming down the hill prey on tourists big-time. small bands of 12-16 years will have no trouble robbing you at knifepoint, and a few are dangerous. Rio is VERY dangerous after dark. |
|
go if you wanna die
|
i know 2 ppl who opened cam houses in Brazil....
1 got sent to prison, and another one had his house shot up by the police whom he didnt pay enough money to and drove him out of the country.... enjoy! |

People have no idea how dangerous some of these countries can be for a gringo. The police are corrupt and fuck you up in a second. Huge numbers of people live way beyond the poverty level. Money is hard to come by and they ALL know you have it. Your life is worthless in places such as this. BUT you can go and have a good time and be totally safe IF you are smart and keep to yourself. |

not very safe at all man, but decent enough for tourist locations (rio, etc). just dont wander too far on your own.
ie - gangs tend to get their way, in fact at least 3 times in that I remember personally from the news gangs literally walked right into army/military bases to seize anything and everything they wanted. not much enforcement or legitimacy there, although that's what happens with corrupt leaders. |

just dont leave your resort.

If you're coming to São Paulo and want some tips about places or whatever hit me up, I live here.
And don't believe 90% what people are saying here. Most of them have never been to Brazil and are posting what they "heard". |
it's about as safe as Naughty Allie in a Federal prison during "freetime"

The follow-up mini series to that, "City of Men", is pretty fuckin' excellent. |
I have been to Rio, as well as many places around the world. Rio has one thing in common with most places: It is not safe for idiots.
|
Brazil and security don't got into the same phrase...
The place is a fucking nightmare... |
act like a idiot and you will be this guy

Brazil, similar to many countries around the world, makes revenue from US tourist. They do not discourage tourism. If verifiable negativity towards US citizens is reported on newsnetworks, it will discourage travel.
They understand this concept. It is no different than Los Angeles in the respect that you must exercise common sense. Read up on Lonely Planet among others and learn the ropes. Most of all, use your instincts when you are there. If you think withdrawing cash from a certain ATM looks unsafe, go with your gut :) Don't be the typical "American." Our country tends to hold little regard for other cultures and usually is guilty of not understanding them. |

One got sent to prison, but the court system got him out in no time, thanks to a good lawyer. He now has a court telling him his cam house is legal, so he basically has a license for that. He is too tired after this hassle, he did not reopen anyway. Maybe someone else wants to learn from his experience, I probably can pass your message on to him. I know another one, he was defrauded by his Brazilian managers who bankrupted the cam business and sold the computers and the cams. |

Die Hard was a great movie :thumbsup |
LOL, looks some in here havent been in Brazil :
Been there 3-4 mnths a year last 5 years, and i have never seen or been into any trouble at all,and i been everywhere. Act like a stupid tourist, and they fuck you really good, same as they do in LA,Paris,London etc, same all over. And of coz, you shall not be in some places in RIO after 10,but many places around the world is like that. Be normal, respect the country,be nice, dont act like an dumbass european/american who think they rule the world, every time they saved up enough $ for a 2 weeks trip, and think they are god`s gift to woman ! Brazil is absolutely one of the country`s who is having most tourism in the world for da moment and gets more popular mnth by mnth, look at "Natal" "Buzios" etc, growing and growing, economi getting bether, criminality way down,of what it was for a few years back ! Enjoy Brazil, have fun,use your head and you are OK :thumbsup |
