I just got back from the SOAD and the Mars Volta show
 

Great combo. SOAD rocked the house - set went on a bit too long though as many of their songs follow the same pattern (slow, moody interludes to heavy thrash and their totally fucked up vocals throughout). It's Crazy Armenian Metal. :1orglaugh They're totally unique, I'll give 'em that.

The Mars Volta is one of my favorite bands - they rock out with their cocks out! I always wondered how they could pull that shit off live and they have 8 members for live shows! They even have a sax player / flautist who was rocking the hall Jethro Tull-style. :)

They can improvise jam all night and it's always tight and works, which is impressive (esp. for an 8 piece).
