What's your honnest opinion on blogs?

Are they more hype than rewarding in your experiences?

Personally I'm loving this whole blog thing.

The SEs will crack down on them but by that time, their OTHER important features will be making enough money for people to care too much. :)

A blog is when you put together a set of thoughts and include maybe a picture or two to assist in what you are trying to get across.

Automated RSS feeds do not equate to a blog
40 Pictures and 1-5 words do not equate to a blog
50 dirty words stringed together with the occasional noun thrown in is not a blog

I'd like to see the kind of conversions a TRUE well thought out blog could accomplish....not these TGP/Blog thingy's.

DutchTeenCash 11-09-2005 03:36 AM

40 pics and 5 words DO make sales

and thats what its all about, not bout some high end philosofical forum for Einsteins

Joe Citizen 11-09-2005 03:38 AM

They suck. They're the TGP of mainstream.

It's like a boring monologue that never ends.

Fuck blogs and those that think people want to read their shit.

I don't like them ... they are also easily spammed ....

My honest opinion of blogs is that most people who post their blog links on GFY, don't actually have a Blog, they are using a Blog program to post galleries with descriptions are a very similar to TGP2 posts.

I've only seen a few links that are actual Blogs, the rest are all junk (IMO) and are a complete waste of time.

I thinkt hat's the key right there, crative text. It IS hard. believe me, our wholebusinessmodelr elies on creative text. The days of a banner saying "clcik me" are long long gone.

I think creative text is what seperates the short termers from the long termers.

Got an ICQ number? I'd like to discuss trades :)

That's precicely what I am trying to avoid. While my whole blog setup is about galleries, the actual textual content in the posts are more or less thoughts and personal experiences that the girl reminds me of with a couple thumbs linking to an external gallery that was custom built just for the blog.

Ok, that's your opinion. however,, some people are tired of just finding pics and not getting any background or interesting things to go with it. Believe it or not, lots of people read blogs. I think blogs are great. I always loved them even before they became popular and revenue oriantated.

I don't know much about RSS but I do know this, how can sponsors who offer RSS feeds really be beneficial? Think about it. People build blogs in hopes of gaining some search engine exposure (and yes it does work if done properly). 1000 webmasters having the same feed can;t be good for any individual aside from thsoe offering the feeds.

I may be wrong about it tho, as I said, I don'tknow much about RSS and how google percieves it.

Tat2Jr 11-09-2005 04:57 AM

blah, blah, blah.... You can't argue with the SE hits they bring in, and you can never argue with how a well done solo girl blog can turn surfers into members.

I really can't go into further detail cuz I don't need the competition. The biggest problem with RSS has been fixed with cheap brainpower/grunt work. That was its biggest stumbling block. I saw that shit over three years ago but I couldnt move on it until now with offshore labor companies. Extremely boring work but the traffic adds up quickly.

But for those who don't get it.... Let's just say THERE"S NO MONEY IN BLOGS AND RSS, okay? :winkwink:

graphical x 11-09-2005 05:04 AM

RSS is the key. Blogs will probably morph out.... Keep your eye on the RSS ball. :)

Dopy 11-09-2005 05:09 AM

1% of porn blogs have well written interesting content the rest are just utter garbage.

Beats me why some of you Muppets even bother using a script when most of your infrequently updated shit could be thrown on static pages using offline generator.

I'm going to quote Maddox, because he says it the best:

Quote:

It's an abbreviation used by journalism drop outs to give legitimacy to their shallow opinions and amateur photography that seems to be permanently stuck in first draft hell. Looking in the archives of the blogs, one would expect someone who has been at it for years to slowly hone their craft and improve their writing and photographs, since it's usually safe to assume that if someone does something long enough, he or she will eventually not suck at it. Even with lowered expectations, you'll get a shotgun blast of disappointment in your face.

It's an unspoken rule that every blog must use the same layout as every other blog: long, slender columns of annoyingly condensed text, thousands of links to other blogs, plugs for shitty political books, and more links to yet more blogs:

The problem with this layout is that there's too much shit to click on. Seriously, who's ever going to click on all those links? The worst blogs are the ones that make every other word a hyperlink to another website so by the time you finish reading this sentence, you've forgotten what you were reading, or why you were reading it in the first place. Hey, this article is great but you know what would make it better? If I could read another article in the middle of it. Great design, morons.

If the thousands of mid-sentence links don't annoy you, the long slender columns of text will. Most of the screen on a blog is blank for an imaginary populace of readers still using 640x480 resolution. I didn't buy a 19" monitor to have 50% of its screen realestate pissed away on firing white pixels, you assholes. They don't print books on receipt paper for a reason. Every time I see this layout, I want to choke the creator with my dry, crackled, and bleeding hands for making my fingers so calloused from having to keep scrolling the mouse wheel to read your dumb "blog."

Blogger: Term used to describe anyone with enough time or narcissism to document every tedious bit of minutia filling their uneventful lives. Possibly the most annoying thing about bloggers is the sense of self-importance they get after even the most modest of publicity. Sometimes it takes as little as a referral on a more popular blogger's website to set the lesser blogger's ego into orbit.

Then God forbid a blogger gets mentioned on CNN. If you thought it was impossible for a certain blogger to get more pious than he was, wait until you see the shit storm of self-righteous save-the-world bullshit after a network plug. Suddenly the boring, mild-mannered blogger you once knew will turn into Mother Theresa, and will single handedly take it upon himself to end world hunger with his stupid links to band websites and other smug blogger dipshits.

Blogging: If minds had anuses, blogging would be what your mind would do when it had to take a dump.

Blogged: What you call a trivial or largely inconsequential topic once bloggers have processed through every tired detail. For more on this, look into: every minor news story.

Blogosphere: The "blogosphere" is the new buzz word that has replaced "information super highway." It's what idiots like to call a collection of "blogs," otherwise known as a tragedy.

Blogomania: Like all other manias, except relating to the infatuation of blogs. It's one step above the more caustic phrase "blog-o-rama." Thankfully the latter hasn't caught on to the extent of its brethren, but that doesn't stop me from punching anyone who says it in the dick.

Blogroll: A long list of links that nobody will ever click on. Bloggers not only link to their friends and fellow bloggers, but their eventual goal is to link to every linkable document on the Internet. Most "blog rolls" are so full of links that it can bring even the mightiest of search engines to a crawl as they sort through all the frivolous bullshit bloggers link to.

Thankfully, since most blogs are shallow in content, it won't take you long to load, and in turn, to close the browser quickly if you're duped into clicking one of these links. If you shut down quickly enough, you may be able to avoid downloading the mandatory 2 gigs of political banners on every blogger's website.

Blogshare: An imaginary share of a blog's worth, which is ironic, since most blogs have an imaginary share of readers.

Blogstorm: A zany phrase news anchors like to use any time they think there's an abnormal amount of posts on blogs regarding any particular topic. Of course, they fail to consider any amount of posting to a blog is abnormal since people who are well adjusted usually have better things to do, i.e., work, or failing that, anything else.

Blog Swarm: Stupid.

Blogging community: Losers, goths, bedwetters, and journalism dropouts.

Blawg: Some prick thought it would be clever to spell "blog" phonetically using the word "law" in the title. It's a phrase used to describe blogs primarily dealing with the law and legal issues. Wow, real clever, dipshit. How did you come up with that one?

Blogumentary: There was recently a bit of a feud regarding this word among two bloggers. Apparently some guy decided that they had exclusive right to use the word, not realizing that similar words (docudrama, dramedy, rockumentary, etc) have been free to use for all people since you can't just copyright an entire genre, and more importantly, that it's stupid. Who cares? Blogumentary? Really? Eat shit you morons.

Blogebrity: Wow, guess what this one stands for? Too easy. Hey, anyone can do it: take a blogger who's a chef, and you get: BLEF. A blogger who's a dentist? BENTIST. A female blogger with an itch? You guessed it: a BITCH.

a new great media getting pretty powerful if you ask me

Taboo 11-09-2005 09:23 AM

I believe in blogging. period. and mainstream media is afraid... very afraid. we believe in it so much we're launching a new blog services company called: BlogWorks - blogging is effective, it's used for therapy, for CRM, for B2B and to generate sales, but your prime focus (if you can) is to maintain it... nothing wrong with launching 200,000 blgos that are really rss HUBs, if that's your goal, it;s very easy to do, but if you want to stand apart, it's possible for 1 well-maintained, personalized blog can accomplish similar revenue. To each his own.

If you're interested in learning more about blogging, generating traffic, building your own network, etc... email me before we launch.
dev^(AT)^BlogWorks^(.)^com
and reference this thread, include your username / gfy etc.

Our BLOG SERVICES network is coming out of stealth mode soon and we have developed features that all... and I repeat "ALL" bloggers (-sploggers) will be interested in using and tools that many of them will not be able to blog without. And we aren't competing with anyone out there... we're building a keiretsu.

Can't say much more while in stealth mode... so get on the BETA invite list now.
http://BlogWorks.com

In fact, I'm running a new domain blog started yesterday (not a splog); it's so new I haven't even installed our own custom software on the domain yet! Check it out and give me feedback: http://www.DomainNews.com - don't criticize the layout, design, colors, or lack of comments/rss - the site is supposed to be very streamlined. But I've added a wealth of content in less than 48 hours. So we'll see how long it takes before it produces substantial results and generates more traffic.

Enjoy and Keep on Blogging!

.
