WTF: 157 Miles PER GALLON!?

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=1000

Loremo AG set to debut 2+2 coupe that gets over 150 MPG

The $13,000 Loremo LS weighs just 992 lbs and features a two cylinder turbo-diesel engine pumping out a hardly earth shattering 20HP. The mid-engine, RWD coupe gets roughly 157 miles per gallon and has a cruising range of 807 miles. It goes 0-60 in 20 seconds and has a top speed of 99 MPH.

A more powerful $17,800 Leromo GT will also be available. It weighs in slightly more at 1,036 lbs and features a 3 cylinder turbo-diesel with 50 HP. It gets 87 miles per gallon, has a cruising range of 497 miles, goes 0-60 in 9 seconds and tops out at 137 MPH.

Both will come standard with airbags, radio and particle filter. Options will include a dashboard computer, A/C, MP3 player, navigation system, and leather.

My big concern is the WEIGHT. The LS eighs less than 1,000 lbs. What if a strong breeze hits you or you accellerate on a highway....will it be SUZUKI SAMURAI Flipover time all over again?

Basically, one way from Los Angeles to San Francisco on 3 Gallons (with some to spare). Nice! Given that gas prices are still uncertain due to global instability, bumping MPG and overall auto efficiency may be the way to go.

Great, but what are the crash test results:1orglaugh

I'll take one of these! I'm more about this than raw power.

Exactly. I doubt you'd want to strap your children into a paper bag with wheels. :1orglaugh

nice but only realistic if they ban all other cars that would crush them like a tin can

I wish they would do that.. it would suck at first but if everyone had a small lightweight car then life would be a whole lot safer. no more hight speed car chases , no more kids dying in car crashes etc..

Some would also say it would be environmentally better. Less oil consumption. Of course, this "oil savings" might be diverted to something else like more energy production for power plants and other gas guzzling activities that don't have the benefit of such high efficiency. It would be nice to see some SOLID environmental gains coming from high efficiency energy consumption for transportion.:2 cents:

0 to 60 in 20 seconds? You would get run over by fast accellerating fully loaded 18 wheelers.

Crappy over weight under powered SUVs do 0-60 in 12-14 seconds.

DANGER!

Prototypes rarely hit the market anyway.

WiredGuy 03-01-2006 10:38 PM

I can't see those things surviving an accident at such a light weight.
